so i was riding today down a HUGE wide open road. it was great, really, it was freaking awesome. i then felt my leg vibrating, it was my phone. so i pulled over on the side of the road to take a quick pit stop, answer a text and just chill for a sec. i was sitting sideways sorta leaning on my bike and i forgot to lock my bars. i got up quick to stretch and get back on the road and then it happened. the GS tipped over on the right side.
im soooooooooooooo mad at myself for not locking my bars like a usually do. theres not a whole lot of damage. bar end mirror came off (didnt break, just the bolt that actually goes into the bar bent) i *think* my clubmans got a little bend, i got a nice new dent in the tank from where the right control hit it, and the right case cover and exhaust have nice new scratches on them and the little ball on the end of my front brake lever broke off.
[/rant]
really the only things im mad about are the bars and the case cover. i just dont wanna go through the hassle of getting new ones. the mirror will be an easy fix, the brake lever doesnt really matter, i never go that far down when i use it and i was thinking about getting a new exhaust soon anyway. i just feel wicked stupid.
so lessons learned: dont sit on your bike like an @$$hole on the side of the road and ALWAYS lock your bars when you get off.
ill post up pics tomorrow if you wanna see.
well, now that its over with, turn it into a naked rat bike and ride that mother
i dont ever lock my bars, unless i go away from the bike. by locking bars you are referring to the handle bars tright?
yeah i was referring to the handle bars
and i already turned it into a naked bike i dont know about the rat part though
so it rolled off the stand ... or ?
i only lock my steering when it's up for the night, or at bike events. keeps folks from getting on and having much fun that way. :)
it was just on the side stand. i was sitting on the side of the stand and when i got off the suspension bounced it a little and it tipped over on the right side.
pics?
that royally sucks. I know exactly how you feel dropping a bike for the first time...
i wonder, seeing as how the stand is on the left, could the stand have not been all the way down. ( has happened to me  ) or when you dismounted, did you get off teh bike to the right?, or was teh bike parked on a slant, basically leaning toward the right?
the stand may not have been all the way down :icon_confused: and it was on a slight slant. im really just mad at myself for letting it happen, i guess i should start being a little more careful. ill post up some pics before i go to work tomorrow, its nothing big really, just a few a scratches
That sux. I dropped my GS just getting out of the driveway. I stopped suddenly because there was a car coming and ended up halfway across the kerb (front wheel on the road - rear wheel on the driveway) When I went to put my foot down the ground was further away than I expected and over I went. I scraped the mirror, broke the end off the brake lever, smashed the indicator lens, scraped the side of the engine (on the suzuki bit) and scraped the exhaust. I was so mad at myself for not concentrating. Plus my husband and I were just leaving for a ride and we couldn't go. It was a Sunday too and there aren't any bike shops open here on Sundays so I couldn't even get a new brake lever till the next week. I learn't my lesson the hard way and I am very careful with uneven roads and driveways now. :)
I only lock the steering if I'm leaving the bike parked somewhere, to stop someone just walking off with it.
Sorry to hear 'bout your lil drop....
After about the 50th drop, it doesn't hurt so much anymore...

Put some hard bags on it to take the fall next time. Cheaper to replace than gas tanks.

not that bad...i know it is upsetting but it happens even to the best of us. if i had a dime for every time i dropped one of my bikes under silly situations...oh boy.
ill be damned, the damage is identical on mine   , cept i had bad ends and teh brake lever is intact although bent in a curve 8)
