Looking to do a 200-250 mile trip each way maybe as soon as tomorrow. My bike seems great and has not left me stranded or given me any problems since I have gone through it and cherried out.
Im a little worried about such long range riding though. Especially sustained highway riding and RPMs. What RPM are you comfortable with sustaining on your bike while highway riding?
The longest trip I've done recently was 19 hours on the bike at 80-85 MPH. That's about 6,500 - 7,000 RPM. I do 300-500 miles every Saturday at 70 or so.
Check your oil every other gas stop, other than that, don't worry about it.
Mine usually stays around 6500 and 7000 on the interstate as well. I get uncomfortable when it reaches the 7500 mark for any length of time, though that rpm may be completely alright for the bike. I average 1000 miles a week, almost all interstate on my bike at those rpm's.
I don't think the GS likes anything lower thatn 4k anyway. I've ridden at 6-7k and for an hour or so and never had any problems. That's not that long, but if one hour is ok then I'm sure longer than that is fine too.
anywhere between 5,000 and 8,000 rpm.. I like to vary my speeds on the highway

So long as you've already iliminated the possibility of fuel starvation, you're good. Check your oil, the proper way, on the center stand (or balancing the bike yourself) and DON'T screw it all the way back in.
She likes being run around 7-8000 rpm all day long from what I can tell. She'll eat up some oil that way though. No biggie. Enjoy the ride. :)
My tour last summer was around 500 miles. My rev's were between 4500 and 6000.Speeds between 55 and 75 on the interstate.
i usually have it between 5k and 6k. this bike is very well built and will stand up to just about anything you can throw at it except redline for a long time (but when is that good for any bike)
