Title: Fuel System/Carberator
Post by: Airforce1 on July 09, 2008, 05:27:18 AM
I'm new to the GS world. I Just picked up a 91 GS500 and am re-assembling most of the bike.  THe manual I have is not clear about the fuel lines, vacum lines connections to the carberators.  My carberators have a plastic Tee on the intake side, which I assume is the fuel supply.  Above that plastic tee there is a Rubber Tee and I cannot figure out what connects to that???? This is not a california model.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  THe manuel I have showes the plastic tee but it does not talk about or show pics of the Rubber Tee.  Also the third hose coming from the gas tank (not one of the two from the fuel cutoff valve) Where does that hose go?

Thanks,
Tom

Go to the Wiki. Hose routing diagram. Upper one is a vent. Link to the wiki is a sticky in the top of this forum.
Here's the hose routing page:

The hose from the tank that is not from the petcock is the drain for the area around the filler neck (open  the gas cap, you'll see the hole, and can look inside the tank and see the tube running straight through the tank) - it is routed down to the hose clamp by the right footpeg. There should also be the battery drain hose and airbox drain (with a sort of slit rubber cap - which lets it drain, but not be an air leak)

Fitting with hose is the vacuum fitting.

Upper T is the atmospheric vent for the carb bowls.

Lower T is the fuel inlet from the petcock.

Petcock

Small fitting on back is the vacuum fitting

The fitting pointing down is the reserve fitting.

The front fitting pointing at my hand is the on fitting.

The fitting behind the on fitting pointing at my hand is the outlet to the carbs.

The hose next to the tank petcock is the drain for the recessed gas cap and should drain out close to the right peg with the other hoses.

Thanks for the help!!  One more question... Does it matter that the vacume hose is connected to the right side carberator?  The diagram and manual both say left carberator.

Right side carb is not ported there to supply vacuum, only left one is.
