Title: car adventures
Post by: jserio on July 09, 2008, 05:35:00 PM
the wife and i decided to pack up the brats and make a 5 1/2 hour drive up to my buddies house in michigan for the 4th of july weekend. we left when i got off work thursday evening. the trip went well on the way up, no traffic really to speak of. the vacation was going fairly well. that is until saturday. we decided to all picnic at the lake/beach. but, when we got into the cooler, damn, no meat for the sandwhiches, just veggies n cheese. so we decided to just pack up and grab a bite at a restaraunt on the way back to town. we stopped at Red Robin. as i'm pulling into a parking space it suddenly becomes extremely hard to steer. i'm like, "oh f%$k. that's just great, power steering went out. i know fluid levels were fine when we left." my wife is like, "huh?" LMAO. anyways. (i'm just teasing, my wife understood but ya know...anyways....) umm...where was i? oh, yeah, red robin. so i pop the hood and get out to go check out what's up. my buddy comes over. i'm looking around in the engine compartment, things look normal at first glance. my buddy who was on the passenger side of the car says, "hey dude, your belt came off or broke or something." oh, that's not too bad, i can fix that here in the lot. i move over to where he is to get a better look. i'll be f%$king damned. my alternator is just laying up on it's side in the engine compartment. the bracket for it has snapped in half. i'm like WTF??? i've never seen that happen before. so, i'm pissed now because i've got to do more work than i though. and then it dawns on me that my tool set is at home on top of the dryer. f%$k. oh, well, guess that's an excuse to go buy a new one right? anyways. we decide we'll eat first and then work on the car. so we eat, dinner was good. we head out to autozone and thd dude there is like, "hmm...no, i don't have one...it says in my computer we don't carry em here. try advance auto." okay...so we go a few blocks over to advance. "nope, can't buy 'em aftermarket. no brackets for any car. have to order it at a dealership or go to a junkyard."   now, i'm extremely pissed off.......it's now 730pm...no dealerships open and no junk yards open either. and it's saturday night. nothing is open on sunday either and i've got to get to work monday morning or i'll loose my holiday pay for friday. we end up leaving the car there and renting one to drive home on sunday. with the tank of gas i had to buy for the rental, it costs me about $200 bucks. now, to get my car home. found a guy who does car hauling as a side job. so happens he's a friend of the father-in-law. but since it's the middle of the week he has to take off work so he charges me $100 for his trouble plus fuel. my total bill from him is $250. i went to the chevy place today and ordered my bracket. it will be around $50 with tax. and it will be here tommorrow.  just my f%$king luck eh? i'm wanting out of this car really bad but can't really afford to go upside down with a new car. i owe more on this thing than its worth.....grrrr....   ah, at least the beer is cold.
