Title: Yay!! bike runs!!
Post by: arbakken on July 10, 2008, 06:18:15 PM
My project '01 GS500 now runs!!! it doesn't idle worth crap, but we'll work on that next. I burned my hand trying to adjust the idle speed (why did they put it all the way down there?) but I think the idle mixture screws are running rich. When I took them off, they were at 1/4 turn out, but everyone here seemed to think a good starting point was 2.5 turns out, so that's where I started. The bike hangs at around 3-4k RPM and then after a few seconds, drops down and stalls out. But it does run, and once it gets above the idle it runs like a raped ape.

Now I gotta get new handlebars, grips, and re-do the front forks.

check float heights, adjust if needed. adjust air mixture screws. clean carbs while your at it.
