A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and
bizarre this afternoon. County commissioners were discussing problems
with the central collections office that is used to process traffic
ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP
Courts.
Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that
central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork
reportedly has become lost in the office. Commissioner John
Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse
me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has
become a "white hole."
That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an
apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.
Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science
term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the
invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense
gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can
escape." Other county officials quickly interceded to break it
up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were
rolling, after all.

Yeah, I heard about this on the radio this morning. Stupid people and power do not mix well at all. It infuriates me some of the shaZam! I hear. Have you heard the audio from the meeting? It's like a circus! People whooping and hollering over something so ignorant and minuscule. How can such an innocent comment be construed as a racist comment? Obviously the people who were offended by the remark have either never been to any kind of school/watched television or they are just race baiters. What's even scarier is a JUDGE asking for an apology over the use of the term. How can a judge not be educated/smart enough to try to gently diffuse this situation instead of wanting a public apology? Amazing.

Getting back to "Black Hole" this has got to be the most petty, frivolous stupid observation of all time. I would have thought pretty much everyone knew the general drift of the collapsed star thing without perhaps having a full grip on the astrophysics of it.
In british / Indian history there is an event that took place in the so-called "Indian mutiny" called "the black hole of Calcutta" but I doubt very much of the administrators of Dallas had that in mind, maybe they need to take a breath or two and grow up.
