i want to get a smaller front sprocket in my gs just to try it out....mainly because i kinda want to practice some wheelies with it. i know that some people just go down to a 14t front sprocket but i'm not sure if thats enough for what i'm looking for, i've seen a 13t sprocket and in another post ( http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=42066.msg479300#msg479300 ) jeremy_nash said he had 12t sprocket and you could power wheelie in second. would this be too extreme getting a 12t? do you have to change anything with regards to the chain with a 12, 13, or 14t? or would it be slightly difficult to change back and to my stock 16t.....in case you haven't noticed i've never done any sprocket mods before.
I currently have a 14t sprocket on my 96 GS and while it did not require a whole lot of effort to get on it did require me to take I believe 6 links (may have even been 8) out of my chain. Changing back to 16t would require a completely different chain. I personally love this mod, it really gets going esp in 1st, really pulls. Any lower than 14t you start to lose efficiency in the sprocket and get a lot of unwanted vibration due to I believe the difference in sizes between the front and rear sprocket. 14t is great, try that first. If you really crave more go to a 13t in the front and go to 42/49t in the rear.
sounds like a good plan....and ya i figured i would need a completely new chain if i was going to b switching back
I have a 15 and at highway speeds the GS seems to want the 16 back. But I do love the feel of the 15 at low end
Someone needs to invent something aftermarket for the GS like the ABC button on the newer Gixer 1000's and Bkings O0
