Has anyone mounted the exhaust from a Ducati Monster s2r800 on their GS? I was going to the junkyard this weekend to pick up an R6 exhaust but there's an ad on CL for a pretty great deal on one. I was going to do the R6 exhaust because it sounds great (so youtube tells me) and the pipes are both 45mm, but if this exhaust is similar I'd rather do that. Any and all help appreciated. I consider myself fairly handy but exhausts are totally new territory for me.

ANY exhaust can be made to work with a little fabrication. I used a V&H header and a MIG pipe on mine that came from an R1. it fit with the help of a custom midpipe.
Problem is I don't have access to welding/precision cutting tools, and I'd like to get as much work done myself before I take it to my local shop to have it all welded up to save some $$. According to the guy selling the exhaust the pipe is 1.5 inches, or 38 mm. GS is apparently 45. Any suggestions besides "take it to your shop with the exhaust and a bunch of money and say hey 'fix this' " are more than welcome
you didn't not say what year is your bike. the F version has slightly larger midpipe than the previous models so it's more that 45mm.
also, if the exhaust you're going to buy is a stock exhaust (stock gsxr, stock r6 or stock ducati) don't expect any incredible sound. they all are pretty restricted plus you'll never get that "roar" out of gs500. you could get nice and deep growl but you'll NEVER get a sound of inline four.

PS. I had gsxr600 stock exhaust installed on my 2004 gs500f and the sound was exactly the same as stock bike, only the air flow was a little bit better.

Sorry...my bike is a 96. And I definitely didn't think you were being rude. I'd rather people were honest than tell me it's a great idea when in reality it sucks. The whole idea of the exhaust isn't just for the sound or performance, rather the look. I'm still toying around with the idea of getting an aftermarket exhaust like yours, which sounds incredible by the way...I was thinking more along the lines of it looking cool. I'm currently running a 14t exhaust which gives me a lot more "get up and go" so again it's not about the performance. Also I figured I would get a better sound of the Duc exhaust with it being a Vtwin and I gather a far less restrictive one. What do you think? Again all honest thoughts welcome. And again kml.krk I did not take that as rude at all, I took it as one guy helping another guy out.

well, if you got a really good deal and if you like the looks I'd say go for it :thumb: remember: whatever makes YOU happy is most important!

Do what makes you happy. Personally I'd put the money into gas/oil/chain lube and go ride your bike, with the stock exhaust. Plan out a nice long trip and go ride.
It works, you're happy with how it works, and it's already bought, paid for, and installed. You want a different look. Plenty of folk making plenty of money on folk wanting a different look/sound, but sheesh... if you haven't got money to throw away, why throw money away?
