Title: clip-on handlebars?
Post by: LOUiE on July 19, 2008, 03:32:42 PM
I'm looking for a more aggressive riding stance and I came across some gixxer clip-on bars.

similar to these...http://www.twenga.co.uk/offer/191465166.html

Any idea if they'll work with my bike?  (90' GSF)

annnnd... if so, is it as painless of an operation as it seems?  ;)

the wont work the gixx has bigger forks.  you need clip-ons that are 37mm.

No worry ... I have one clip on comming back, I have the most loose buy back policy ever .. you want to go to Katana FE, I'll use the 89 clip on's you buy as credit to that as  long as its not broken ... Anyway yours are there, in fact nothing is getting sent till 25/26 anyway, so plenty of time to reverse anything.
Cool.

how does it effect the clutch cable if I lower the handlebars?  I seem to remember a friend of mine relocating his and running into problems.

You end up re-routing the clutch and throttle to the opposite side of the frame. Such that the throttle cable goes around the steering head to enter at the left side of the frame. It shortens up enough that it works great.

I also have a set of 89' clip-ons for sale in good shape for $100.

stupid question, but....
if you change to clip-on handlebars where do you end up mounting your mirrors and front master cylinder (on a '90 gs)?

The 89 clip on's take mirrors and master cyl in the exact same spot as stock bars relative to your hand. On all bars actually, same thing. the M/C fits just like stock.
Cool.

on the right side of the bar, the mirror screws into 10mm thread on the bar clamp for the m/c... on the other side, its its own clamp (atleast on mine)

both slide off (as well as the switches, etc) and can be put on new 7/8" bars.
