Post by: souljeroflight on July 23, 2008, 07:29:31 PM
Well when wrming my bick usually putters at first or slight pop.  Which i figured was normal during warming tonight though on my way home i would come to a stop and play with the throttle a bit on take off about 2500 rpms max and it would kinda pop or putter what do you guys think the problem is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 2005 gs500f.

I've noticed the same thing with mine as well (2005 Gs500e).   I'm up to 17k so I'm suspecting that I'm due for a valve adjustment and carb sync.   I changed the spark plugs and changed the oil recently but it's still there... usually as I'm exiting the driveway I have a single backfire, then no more for the rest of the ride until I start it up again.

actually, i had that too. I have about 2100 miles on mine, it's an 09 and when I hold it at 2 or 2500 rpms it sputters. If i hold it there long enough it ends up dying....I just don't hold it at that rpm anymore.

clean jets? check idle air mixture.

not a pro but i think it's too rich when at that low-end so it floods and kills the motor. would also account for the popping because excess fuel is burning after it's left the cylinder

I may be wrong, but I think I read somewhere on here that the GS runs lean.

is everything on your bike stock? is the timing correct? what are the conditions of the plugs?
