I want to do the rear wheel swap to a 4.5 inch rear wheel and was wondering if this would work?

That is a 3.5 inch wheel. Exact same size as GS. And $150 is ridiculous $$ for a GS wheel, you want to pay 1/2 of that for one, I'll drop off 1/2 a dozen at your door
Cool.
Buddha.
You want to look for one with straight spokes, not swept. I think the years that work are '99-'02.

Oh okay, thanks.. I am looking for the Katana 4.5 in rim!
Bandit 600 rear wheel is a 4.5 inch swept spoke but it requires a LOT of work to make it fit correctly. If you want info on this PM me.
I'm not mechanically inclined.. so I am trying to do this swap as easily as possible.. but thanks for the offer ben!
anyone know if this baby will work?

(kind of pricey though)
Yes that can work. You need disk off it but can use the GS drive.
Cool.

Buddha, if you've got a set of stock GS wheels you want to offload cheap... I could use a set for rain tires on my race GS. I don't care about cosmetics, just that they are straight and sound.
I have a whole slew of them in 12 colors from sunday.
Many of them have tires that I have a local GS population supported for months ... like if you see one guy running around with a blue rear tire and a black front in charlotte area in NC, he's a customer of mine. I have had 2 guys meet each other at a dealer and one guy had the other guy's wheel. They both called me to complain bug me right from the spot. Like your mistress and wife calling you ... yeow.
Anyway, I am too lazy to get off my butt and dig these out of where I tossed them (my van/trailer). Now tell me what are you hoping to pay for it, cos it could be the wrong side of $50 to ship it. 2 wheels USPS or UPS ... prolly 40-50 bucks.
Cool.
Buddha.
I am assuming this will fit.. is the price fair?
Let me know, esp. you Buddha..
Yea that will fit. Now what you have to do to other things - no idea. But toss the GS axle in and it can sit in the GS swingarm without any mods. What else needs to be sliced and diced ... no idea.
Cool.

Thanks man
Bend the brake to accomodate the 150(160 and you're on your own) allign the wheel properly and ride. There's a consensus (sp) that says you have to shim the sprocket, stand on your head, run in a circle, and pat your gut all at the same time but I was good with just the brake arm. O0
Gaaa ... average, he'd definetly need the disc, and what drive does he use ... I got somehting on mine, but not sure what its off ... I also am yet to ride it ... so there goes that.
The 5 bolt disk can be substitued with the GS disc, I only put 3 holes in mine and bolted it on. 3 bolts is plenty ... but you may not like it.
Cool.
Buddha.
Well, yeah. Of course you need the cush drive and sprocket from GS. But i'm still running the Kat disc and haven't had a problem. I might go through Jeff's storage :icon_rolleyes: and grab a hanger for shits and giggles just to see if there's a difference. I think not; baby puppy
Yea kat disc = no problem, but he's buying a discless wheel.
Now Jeff's rear disc is 4 bolt. Post 98 is 5 bolt.
Cool.

Alright.. just won a 99 Katana Rim on ebay.. This is what it looks like:

Now I need a rotor for it.. where/what kind should I be looking for?
edit: will this work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GSF-bandit-600-1200-gsx-rear-ROTOR-rim-wheel-katana-r_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a552Q7c39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem120294846777QQitemZ120294846777#ebayphotohosting
You can drill a GS disc and use it with 3 bolts, but otherwise the 5 bolt one looks like it will work.
Cool.

:o
The less drilling I have to do the better.. But I would also consider it..
I would get the bolts with that rotor if I were you ... and bloody hell the rotor is 25 bucks Buy it now isn't it. I dunno why, I end up paying in the 50's for a set of front rotors too ... Crazy 100% crazy.
Cool.

get the kat rotor and the bracket that the rear caliper bolts to
then it is a direct bolt in swap.....super easy
buddah did something half a$$ed......usually he does it whole a$$ed

caliper on one end.....axle on the other....yup that is it
Man I am missing my favorite roll of duct tape to fix my front end. I had to use zip ties, and you know, its not the same thing.
Cool.

So the bracket will lower or raise the stock brake caliper so it is better suited for the 4.5 in rim and new rotor?
Also, is this a suitable brake rotor?

Probably ... it does say 99-03 kat.
Now we are all out of brake rotors in the US, we are getting them from hongkong now ???
Cool.

Didn't even notice that!
I just got the rim in today. It looks real good. Just need to order the bracket, rotor, and wheel.
Now would a Bridgestone BT45 Battlax fit the rim and be okay on the GS? It measures 150/70-17 and it is also rated V instead of H.
Thanks,
Yev
