need to do all new wiring am gonna try an rewire but prolly will get too frustrated,,, let me know O0
What year?
I believe there are only 3 different harnesses.
89
90-02
04+
I think 89-00 was the same, except for locations of things.
01-2 didn't have the funky 3-4 prong advancer ? Electronic tach ?
And yea 04 on - no clue.
Cool.

i have a 94 and what happened was my friend charged my battery for me and put it back in and when he hooked it up he hooked + first and - second but when he hooked th second the fuse blew after smoking for a second and the headlight gave out a poof of smoke??? never had this happen before has anyone else?
You probably don't need a full harness, likely only one wire has blown (maybe a couple), so I'd try and work out what is damaged and why, then it should be easier to replace the burnt bits than fitting a whole harness. :thumb:
You will need some more advice on how to get replacement smoke back in the new wire, you have to make sure its the right grade. :cookoo: :bs:
and check teh headlight smoke, as well as teh fuse smoke as well. might have to rplace that .  , and when finished top off the blinker fluid . :bs: :bs: :bs: ( sorry m8 i had to ) lol all kidding aside. yeah try and check repair teh burnt wiring ahead of time/first. remove headlight, check for damage there, and replace as needed. if you must replace the harness. i found a few on Egay http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=gs500+harness&_sacat=See-All-Categories

89 has a different starter solenoid with a different connector.
04+ have the elec tach & a single signal generator with the multi prong rotor.
okay i replaced the melted wires waiting for fuses and i think i might have fixed it :dunno_white:
Wiltse - Good you fixed it.
Mole - yamahon - My idiot friend somehow scorched 1/2 the headlight plug. It crumbled, and it now has one loose pin. Luckily there is enough of the plug to keep other sheite from hitting it. Just dont try to remove it with hands, you need a set of pliers, some weidly twisted sheite that has no name and really everyhting still falls apart.
D - 89 solenoid switch plug ... huh, I should buy a 89 and look at it. :thumb: I do know it was under the seat, not under the side panel. Loved that actually. Quick access.
Cool.

why not buddha, hell youve got a gs stash to rival the stash of jay lenos bikes lol. hell when gs parts become scarce. all weve gotta do is get ahold of buddhas bike parts :icon_twisted:
Strangely, I am several items short, like I am 1 carb set short (may have the bits to put one together ... not sure) I also am out of headers (but only need 1) Wiring, and some stuff I have enough of, Wheels I have a plenty especially fronts but atleast 2 are needed in the near future for Kat FE jobs, I have to look into what else, but I have like 10 triples 90-08 all of whom I ahve cut off the ears, but I have 10 of those black triples that go under the top triple mostly intact. Basically I have enough for the 2 bikes except for some stuff. The dash covers, I just bought 2 new - ouch. I need a third cos opsman's bike is missing it (double ouch). I have some stuff I borrowed from people, some stuff I lent to people like headlight I just replaced to one guy I borrowed from, etc etc ...
Cool.
