Hello all. I'm a new cyclist (very new actually, just took my MSF course a week ago). Bought a '97 GS500E last week and look forward to riding it every day. I'm hooked!
Had problems on the freeway the other day with it. Looks like the "classic" petacock issue so I have the CRF250X one on order. It's been acting weird since then so hopefully the petacock will take care of it... if not more troubleshooting. Either way it's still a ton of fun!
I just wanted to say that I'm very thrilled to see such a great forum for GS500 owners! Thanks guys!

WELCOME
And....
POST SOME PICS :thumb:
Well.... since you asked here's one I took the other day. Makes me want to do things like get the aztec8 dual headlamps... do a fenderectomy and shorten the turn signals. I think naked bikes are hot though. Also I'l probably remove the gs500 sticker from the tail. *maybe* the suzuki stickers too but not sure

thats a very sharp looking bike.
my 2¢ on then shorten the turn signals are if you're still fairly new to riding id recommend keeping them stock, cause they're a lot more visible and i think safety should be first before looks. just my 2¢
welcome
Thanks to Suzuki for making the bike ;)
That's good advice about the signals. I wanted to do the mod but was concerned about compromised security. You've reenforced those concerns so it will certainly be something I wait on. I bought some LED brake light bulb replacements with the hope that they would make my brake light brighter... but just the opposite :icon_confused: maybe I just got cheaper ones.
From what I read/gather the mods I should do first would be a brake light and head light modulator and a louder horn.
Aside from that I may not end up doing anything. This is a "beater" bike for me, a learning tool and something to just have fun on.
It'll probably end up sitting in San Diego most of the year... feeling neglected as I'm traveling 10 months out of the year with my job :dunno_white:
thanks again for the great forum!

Yes, that's what I would recommend. I have a headlight modulator and ever since I installed it, people notice me much more quickly than they did before. I have a brake light modulator that I keep meaning to get around to installing. Since you live in California like me, make sure you get a California approved brake light modulator. Unlike headlight modulators, brake light modulators are not legal in all states and California only allows four flashes when you hit the brakes, not continuous modulation, which is allowed in a bunch of other states...
