I am going for my concealed carry permit this Saturday, I can't wait
That's awesome! What state do you live in? :2guns:
i have mine here in PA, and we have a cary law w/ other states that allows us to cross some boarders :2guns:
Sweet :icon_mrgreen:
I guess the Florida test is the one to take. I hear it's good for a ton of states...including California (if that matters to any of you)
hehe... Test...
there is no test here in PA, I guess test is.. Write your name and address down, as long as you get that right, and arent a fellon.. they take your pic and hand it to ya 8)
Wow, that's cool. I thought all states had some sort of test that had to be passed.
What kind of guns do you guys have?
:thumb: :2guns: We have ccw here in ohio. I have thought about it but not done it yet. I get a lot of mixed feedback from some of those I know in law enforcement. There is no state law against open carry but it is highly frowned upon.
Of course it's frowned upon. Too many people would get freaked out cause, oh no! there's a guy with a gun over there. All those people just need to go to a single gun show, then their fear of people carrying will go away.
The only problem that could arise is if you ever get pulled over and a cop sees a gun on you, you're going to have a loaded gun in your face in half a second.
No test in GA. Fill out the application, pay fee, get fingerprinted, background check. If all checks out, you're in :thumb:
Takes bout 30 days or so.
it is pretty easy here, take a class pass a common sense test and shoot a target and hit it a couple times with an entire clip. its not hard more or less its just to get you on record but makes traveling with a gun a LOT easier
PS: I live in VA
Here in ohio once you get your ccw the information is attached to your drivers license info. For example a cop runs your plates for speeding etc. , he automatically knows you have a ccw and will treat you as such. Regardless of wether they see a gun or not, they will have theirs ready.
dont have one yet, butin az,i carried my glock open. however here in tn. idonthave onenow.mainly because idonthave a weaponpractical to carry. a smith 500 loaded is HEAVY, basically though, in TN, weve got 3 things to do. 1 take class/ pass it, 2. shoot targets, with at least iblieve its 50% accuracy( notsure onthat. im not totally sober atm. and 3 pay a fee, gets printed up at the local DMV

Back in GA the two are completely separate. In fact, if at a stop with a CCW and asked if you have any weapons, you have the right to basically lie. Waiting on the cops hood while he recovers, inspects and replaces your firearm is quite time-consuming and this rule is really just a way around that. No need in things being an hour long ordeal every time you speed.
Take class, demonstarte that you can obey the RO's instructions and safely put 50 bullets down range then go to county sherrif get printed and give them money.
Oklahoma is a must inform state if you have a weapon in your possesion you have to tell them otherwise if it is found you lose your permit face an administartive review and are fined pretty heavily.
For me in GA it was $15 at the Sheriff's Dept., $15 at the magistrate court, and called back the next day to pick up physical license though the application was granted same day. They are permitted to take up to 60 days, but depending on circumstances it usually takes no time or 2-3 weeks.
Well depending on where you take it here the price and what is free is different. Back North in Fredericksburg were I grew up it is $70 and you have to supply your firearm and ammunition. Here I am taking it for $45 with everything included in the class, they supply the firearms and ammunition, which is great for me cause if not I was going to use my friends .40 glock since i don't own a pistol of my own yet.
Also as in OH when you have the CCW permit it is tied to you vehicle registration, so when/if you get pulled they know you could have a gun. The routine here "keep you hands on the steering wheel" through the bull horn then they approach the side of you vehicle and ask if you are carrying and where. For the most part though if you have the permit the police here are easy to handle, its when you don't have the permit and have a gun that they get pissy.
Funny but sad and true story, first time I got pulled over on my wing after getting my CCW the officer relieved me of my single action officers .45, goes to the hood of his car and promptly proceeds to attempt to safe and clear the weapon. He attempts to squeeze the trigger with the thumb safety on :thumb: then decides to ask me how the decocker works on my pistol :cookoo: He about pissed himself when he realized how close he came to putting a round through the hood of his car. He was getting ready to try and decock the weapon with the thumb safety off :o Thankfully he was smart enough to ask.
Oklahoma law says your weapon must be returned to you in the same condition it was in when you were relieved of it once the contact is finished that means if you carry condition one it must be returned to you with a round chambered a full mag in the mag well and the safety on. Watching that ass have to swallow his obvious disdain over civillians being allowed to carry and the embarresment of almost discharging a firearm and then having to reload said weapon and return it to me ready for operation made the 12 over speeding ticket well worth it.
He never got to forget it or brush it under the rug either because his sargent and a couple of state troopers were students of mine when I taght JKD. I suggested that maybe the local officers needed to be far more familliar with other types of wepons other than just the one the department issued them.
i got my fire arm safty class this fall
uh why...what are you scared of?

Why do I have to be scared, it couldn't be that I like guns and prefer to have my bases covered when I travel with a gun in my state.
Frank...........Frank...........sigh..................
a lot of us were "born" around guns. We started shooting at an extremely young age. That means way less than a teenager. One can even look up kids (Boy Scouts) that rode on school buses with their .22's on their way to practice. Nobody ever got shot. Nowadays it's so sad. TV and Hollywood embellish guns in movies on one hand and in real life the Liberals that are such "friends to Hollywood" scream "Death to Gun Ownership". Confusion huh? How about the never ending "cop shows" where the "racist" made an "anti-semitic" statement and "a gun" was found UNDER HIS BED with AMMUNITION? Oh dear dear! I saw one today as a matter of fact. What a bunch of bullshit. On these movies and the "TV", I'd like for you to look at the "heroes"........"the warriors"........"the victims"........."the anti-heroes".......the victims that suddenly become heroes...........also I want you to look at the gender.........I want you to look at race...........especially what I want you to look at are "patterns". I am a "pattern watcher" to be sure. Text, Video, Actions, shoe laces tied, you name it. You will have to agree
that there is an agenda. This Country has always been chockablock full of guns. We love'em. Some just to touch and feel and never shoot and some to shoot the piss out of. We ENJOY it. Call it what you will. Call it what the Liberals call it.........penile envy or some bullshit like that. It is just as gratifying as hitting a golf ball down the fairway or hitting a home run. Get used to it. "We" are NOT gonna change.
There is a great SEA of human beings between New York City and Los Angeles and San Francisco in the "fly over states" that feel "just that way". There are 50's of millions of "gun slingers". Freak out. We are "just hangin' out baby"..............waiting for all the shootin' to start. :)
Let my permit expire a few years ago, just went today and got printed and submitted my packet to get a new one :thumb:
Most states with CCW laws are now reciprocal with Oklahoma, when I first got mine in 1997 no one accwpted out of state permit's.
It'll be nice being able to travel and not have to leave "little buddy" at home.
now for the 3 month wait.

You got it right! That says it all. I've shot here and there since I was about 8 or so. A little late from when many other people do, but living in California, in the middle of a city, where the biggest patch of land is the middle of a park, there's not too many places to shoot. Believe me, there are a lot more people even in New York, LA, and San Fran, that love their guns. The majority of the cities may come off as liberal, but that's just 51% in a lot of cases. The other 49% probably have a gun or 3 at home.
I wish there was more freedom for firearms here in the UK. I love to shoot but considering the rules of owning firearms and shooting firearms and so seriously strict and such a culture against them because they believe everyone with a gun wants to shoot someone.
The most we get to shoot are shotguns on our own private farmland shooting game and then we can go and shoot clays also, however these are heavily restricted, no pump action no more than like 5 rounds can be held in any sort of magazine or storage area in a gun incase you were to possibly shoot more than twice without reloading manually lol. No hangguns, period. Rifles are heavily limited by power and caliber. The only guns that are really available are target shooting pistols and target shooting rifles. And even then only at approved ranges. Would be nice to be able to take your handgun out and just shoot the cans on a summer afternoon on your 500 acres of farmland but your not.
Kasumi...........I can't believe "they" did that to the citizenry in your country. I can't believe the citizens weren't raising a mountain of Hell.
I can't believe that "representative's" doors weren't being broken down in the wee hours of the morning and people standing in the streets with torches waiting to strip them naked. But I digress (is that the right word). There is a "mass hypnosis" going on with the population and humans are gullible. Hitler said what? Give me a generation of your youth? Well............"over here" we are seeing the same desires of people that supposedly "represent" us. "THEY" want those damn guns. In Australia, it was Rebecca Peters, a sorry Buddha Loves You as there ever was one. She( led the attack on Aussie firearms in that country) and your government, and members today of "our government" have the phallus of the U.N. in their mouths and the scrotum of their benefactors (the Elitists) slapping against their buttocks. Our guns represent a super MAJOR impediment to "them" aligning us to be truly slaves. With the horrifying taxation, it's bad enough now...........but it's gonna get worse. They want our paycheck, our property and you can bet your sweet ass that they WANT THOSE GUNS!!!!! "They" have created enough "laws" to make each and every one of us criminals worthy of arrest long before we ever make to work each morning. All they need to do is "apply them". Be afraid of your government. Be very afraid.
Trust me i am afraid of my government. I could drive to London, have to pay to get into my own capital, probably get mugged which they would then say was my own fault for possibly carrying something valuable on me, i might then chase the mugger down and beat him over the head with my fist and thus be locked up for assault at which point i would have to go to court, pay for my own lawyer to defend me for beating up some scummy little shaZam! who tried to steal shaZam! off me, then il get released after lots of money and media and the mugger will be let off scott free because they couldn't prove anything, On my way back to the car (which now has a horrendous parking ticket charging me £50 for every 15minutes over the alotted 47.62 minutes i was allowed to stay in that space) i will most likely get stabbed, put into hospital, where i will be paying National Insurance to catch MRSA and i might add il also be paying for the person who is the second cousin's, 4th grandmother of some illegal immigrant laid in the bed next to me to also catch MRSA whilst having jumped to the top of a hip replacement queue no doubt. After my lengthy time in hospital i come out and decide i want to get a job, say a basic job, stacking shelves at the store, ooo no i can't do that because my government has implemented a system where they can check my name against my health records before i even get to interview without my consent (unless you opt out by ticking the box that doesn't exist!) at which point they will say you were stabbed in the back, you must have back problems we dont want to get sued by you for picking a shitty ladder that you stupidly fell off because you had a twinge in your back so were not guna employ you. This will leave me with no income, great i can now get tax benefits while finding a job that will take me, expect its not a tax benefit, i dont get benfits what i get is a loan but its not until you get the job that you realise it was a loan and they start demanding money back from you with interest! What kind of benfit is that??? Thus i will now be looking for somewhere to live, while im sleeping in a shop doorfront some person from romania who came over here for a "better life" will be being put up in a brand new home with a grant for "settling into the community" settling into the community means bringing over their entire family and getting english passports for life. They will then soon be demanding a school for only romanian people which our "government" will have to accept for fear of being accused as being discriminative by the european union. Unbeknown to me at this time my prime minister who clearly doesn't give a tupney toss about the situation his people are getting into is busy signing off southern england or all our future earnings or a policy which says we have to give all our resources to them f%$k knows. Then when hes finished sucking on the EU's giant knob he will be flying over to the US of A with his thumb stuck up his arse ready to play 'Risk' at mr Bush's house in which they will together plan to invade Iran and then Korea and then move on to get rid of Russia because they take up too much space. And all sorts of Joint US and UK policies that come out of it.
*Note references made to individual groups of people, names, places and all views expressed here are non intentially racists nor discriminitive. All they are is illustrativie
I had read within the last year or two in the NRA magazine where over in England an elderly man named Martin shot and killed a piece of trash that was robbing him. His home had been robbed before I think and one of the survivors was allowed out of prison early? and "the government GAVE him money to hire an attorney to SUE Mr. Martin who had to go through a tremendous amount of hell just for defending himself and his home from thugs. Man that is f%&ked up. Something is terribly wrong with a system that nutures that situation. I am afraid that ours is headed that way. England and the USA are always "joined at the hip"........by the International Banking at the very least while discounting all else that is much!!
You are most correct sir. That sorta shaZam! happens all the time. They apprantly 'improved the fuzzy areas' surrounding home defence so that we could feel safe at home. Now the rule is, you can't have any weapon at the read to defend your home against some scum bag, but if said scum bag broke in and made a direct threat towards you that you couldn't avoid then you are allowed to defend yourself, however to have any chance of getting away with it you best make it a cushion cos god forbid you hit him with one of your golf clubs he will sue the pants off you and say you came out there to cause him harm and you wern't defending yourself at all. Well no shaZam!, has everyone forgotton that this piece of shaZam! is actually in my house! stealing my shaZam!! and he complains that i beat the crap outta him rather than defended myself. f%$k off. We arn't even allowed something non lethal like a taser - not even in our own homes to defend ourselves with. Surely it is better that you can defend yourself with a non lethal tool that your trained to use and can use properly and effectivly to cause the least amount of damage to all parties involved rather than clobbering someone over the head with the closest hard object you can find. But hell who knows.
You can walk down the street and get stabbed for looking at the paving slab some yob was walking on and he will still only get a slap on the wrist maybe a year in prison which he will be let out after 6 months.
If you are afraid of your government you should do something about it.
I do, i plan to move lol. Its scary that when something is put to the people to vote for (in this case Irish) and they vote against. The Prime minister still signs the document in secret. What else is he doing in secret and getting away with. Plus i don't want to become one huge country known as the EU. Plus i dont wana pay a fortune to enjoy riding my bike and driving my car - more so than any country in the world. This government is appauling and there isn't alot you can do about it.
Kas............it's all part of an agenda and "a plan". Unfortunately, "the plans" aren't good for the citizenry. Only the Elitists.
I don't know if you've read much about "the old west" or outlaws back when here in the USA but Frank James (brother and partner to Jesse James and the James Gang (along with the Youngers)) was somewhat of a political philosopher in his later years after he got pardoned. He said (after the Civil War) that the next civil war in the United States would be fought between Labor and Capitalism (management). I tend to agree with him somewhat. It's the promise keepers (we the workers) vs. the promise makers (management) and their behind the scenes (Elitist) support and the money to make sure happens what "they" want to happen. Just my take on it! :)
I ain't no damn Communist either!!!! :) I hate those bastards too!! :)
scariest words youll ever hear:
" Hi, we're from the government, and we're here to help you" :o
Yea exactly, then the small print right after that comment in the size .005 that no one can read which says "while we slowly f%$k you over and stab you in the back"
Life would be so much better back in the old west. You and your gun. Your life, you work hard, what you earn is what it is, not decided by a credit crunch caused hundreds if not thousands of miles from your home. The rules were simple, you are protected but also in charge of your protection and everything you do is your own choice.
This world could do with going back to the dark ages and starting again hopefully not making the same mistakes twice.
Thats cool man, I live in Nevada, just turned 18 and I'm saving for a handgun right now. I won't be able to get a concealed permit til I am 21 but in Nevada you are able to own a handgun at 18 and have OPEN CARRY.
Looking at the .40Cal Taurus 24/7 OSS .40CAL 15+1
And about being afraid of your government, it's not even our government anymore, the republic is dead, we better all arm ourselves. :2guns: :nono:
bro thats gonna be one heavy ass carry gun :o, nice but heavy, course hell i should talk lol, smith500 snubbie , anyhoo all aside, i want one of these, and its ammo, for an hour or two
http://shock.military.com/Shock/videos.do;jsessionid=26F40AC4E0566E724DD335F4655D5BAB?displayContent=171911&ESRC=dod-b.nl :icon_twisted:
Yama most states I have read the CCW laws for do not allow anything larger than .45 caliber, I primarily keep track of MO., AR., TX., MS., LA., ccw laws since those arfe the states I travel in regularly, I think everyone of them prohibited anything larger than .45 for concealed carry.
AyeKay are you in the military? That is the only reason for exception to the 21yr old age restriction on handgun possesion. Thats a federal requirement for the sale transfer or ownership of handguns. Memebers of the military between age 18 and 21 are exempted from this requirement and in Texas can get a concealed permit.
In ohio there is no limit on caliber. Though I definately think something smaller than the 500 would be a better option.
BP ive no intention of having teh 500 as a concealed weapon, FAR TOO HEAVY , unless i keep it in the car :thumb:
I don't know that there is a caliber restriction here, the instructor didn't mention it but i wouldn't doubt there is one. However here if you were to shoot and kill/wound someone you would have to justify the situation and what you shot the person with, and i am pretty sure a 500 would be pretty unjustifiable as a weapon for personal protection.
But in 4-6 weeks once my background check comes back i'll get my permit :thumb:
Also opinions for firearms? I am seriously considering a Glock G22C, they are light, tough and shoot like butter. I am leaning on the side of a .40 but I would spring on a good deal on a 9mm to, I'm more like a fish out of water at this point
For concealability I prefer a single stack weapon vs. the wider grip of a double stack. I have a para p10 .45 and the width of the grip tends to make it bulge and "print" under a light concealment shirt. Plus the dam things just enough thicker that even with the tension screw backed all the way out on my favorite holster it bumps the mag realease button. So new leather for carrying oit when I get around to it.
That being said both 9mm .40 are very light recoiling rounds even in +P load forms. I wouldn't get the compensated weapon, in low light situations the muzzle flash directed upwards is even worse than the fireball out of the muzzle and any firing in a position close to your body could result in some pretty nice powder burns from the compensator.
I have carried a full size and compact 1911 in an aker flatslide paddle holster xr19 item 268a here. http://www.akerleather.com/pages/concealment_holsters.htm
I wear this rig under a one size too large light cotton short sleeve shirt and never had anyone notice it. The worst thing you can do is let the general public know you are carrying it scares them. Be prepared to spend some money finding a good concealment rig that works well for you and your lifestyle. You can always go the fanny pack route but nothing screams gun or nancy boy more than a fanny pack on a dude....LOL
whatever rig you go with be it a small of the back. IWB, loop slide or paddle holster a good stiff leather belt that securely holds the weapon and has e reinforciing layer between the leather layers is a must. I have to wear dress belts quite often and favor the Galco concealment belts. http://www.securityandsafetysupply.com/products-duty-gear/galco-2.html
Stay away from shoulder holsters makes you look like you have a colostomy bag under your arm and doesn't really conceal shaZam!, any movement that causes your concealement clothing to move will show the weapon.
If you use an IWB rig remember you'll need to buy your pants about 2" larger in the waist.
when i carried, i altered my pants, where the weapon was on my leg, behind the pocket., which was hard to do. look at my avatar, im about as skinny as skinny gets while being healthy ( rider with backpack on, lol and its a glock back pack too)
Well here is what i plan on doing. The CCW permit is essentially to allow me to carry a firearm in my car without worrying about the @$$hole cop that may or may not pull me over. I will have my weapon for home protection and if going to a more shady area, anyone been to the bad side of Richmond, VA . I will get a holster that mounts to my belt, already have a weight bearing belt good for that, and choose my shirts wisely when i am carrying on my person.
Mostly though i am looking for a gun to shoot with and better my marksmanship with a pistol, because i simply enjoy shooting, personal protection is a bonus and the CCW is just something that is smiled upon by police officers of VA when you carry a gun.
And BP a single stack vs a double stack is a good point. I will look into that but if i remember right the single stack guns feel a little small in my hand but I haven't held or shot one in a good bit.
