it would cost if i just told my dealer "here, make my bike better."
the reason for this, i think my bike needs its valves adjusted, its recommended every 4,000 miles, ive rode 6k on it since ive owned it and im not sure if An had it done. it still starves out every once in a while which is a HUGE pain in the ass, especially when im already running late for work, and theres a HUGE dead spot in the RPM range at about 7 or 7.5 where it has more power at about 1/8 throttle than anywhere else more open.
i would just take the time and do it myself but really, ive been WAAAAYY to busy and i dont wanna mess up the valves or anything. i also need to get a new rear tire, chain and rear sprocket so i figure ill let them do that too while they`re at it.
so, for all that crap whatcha think they'll charge me? i already know its gonna be about 300$ in parts, i just need a rough labor estimate. :thumb:
Cant you phone them and ask for a quote :dunno_white:
figure $75/hr on high estimate. 1 hour minimum on wheel, etc. so at least 300 in labour as well
Not likely your valves... Paying $$$ to have your valves checked is wasted $$$.. Our Suzuki tech here at work told me that he has not seen one bike with the valves very far out EVER! Even with 40K on em... If you think they may be out you can check them very easily. its replacing/changing them that takes some time/skill. sounds to me you are having carb problems and possibly the fuel starvation petcock issue.
For the most part... checking valves is a waste of time on the GS
Scott - I have heard that too, first hand from GSJack also.
However I ahve adjusted valves in my 89 well before the 40K, in fact I think I went thicker by atleast 2-3 sizes from 8K to 48K. Now on bikes I have bought, only 1 bike needed it and it had 7K miles and it had 1 loose one. It was clacky as hell.
Cool.
