check you idle screw under your seat on the cabs

There are several possible causes for a high idle.

1) Did the bike work correctly for a long time and then start behaving this way all of a sudden?  If so, some dirt may have lodged somewhere in the carburetors.

2) Just in case you are new to the bike, think about the cable itself:
* Has it ever been damaged?  (Kinked, bent, etc.)
* How "old" is the cable - in both years and miles?
* You may just need to lubricate the cable.  Certainly try that before replacing it.

If these ideas don't seem to help, come back with some more info and we'll try to give you some more specific ideas.

So after you've started the bike, and shut off the choke, it still runs at 5000rpm? If so, check the idle screw underneath, between the carbs.

The choke could be stuck....mine has been that way since I got the bike. It works when I put it on, but when I pull it back, it stays on.  I know its the cable but just to lazy to change it.  I just reach down and close the choke by hand...no big deal.

Also, check choke cable slack, loosen the nut and long nut on the cable.
