Title: Safe to start with damaged muffler?
Post by: iandunn on August 01, 2008, 11:11:07 AM
I'm selling (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=43231.0) my GS, but it has some damage. The muffler is dented and the handlebar is broken off. Some of the people I'm talking to understandably want to make sure it's running before buying it, but I'm not sure if it'd be safe to start it until those things are fixed. What do you think?

As long as the muffler isn't blocked,  you'll be fine. Doesn't look like it is to me...

Go ahead and start it, but quickly place your hand in front of the exhaust opening. If you feel plenty of air coming out, you'll be fine. The bars won't matter as long as you're not trying to drive it  :cookoo:
