Title: Monterey Bay ride Aug 24th
Post by: Bob Broussard on August 04, 2008, 10:09:56 PM
I guess I should start a new thread about the 24th, so nobody misses it.
That should be enough notice for everyone.

Meet at my house. Do any maintenance jobs. Then ride to Big Sur or Carmel Valley.
Around 10:00 am sounds reasonable :dunno_white:

Woot! Thanks for starting the new thread, Bob!  :kiss3:

Sorry about the postponement...but hopefully, it'll give the other folks time to get their schedules sorted out. That's definitely plenty of warning!  :flipoff: :flipoff:

Also, I may show up the evening before to do some wrenching if you'll be around. Don't want to hold up the other folks for the fun part - RIDING!  :thumb:  If I do come down on Saturday, I'll just buy the necessary stuff in Salinas (or from you  :icon_mrgreen:) so I don't have to trek down with too much. Maybe we could do some work on the bike and I treat you to a nice bbq dinner at Smalley's?

Any excuse to ride to Monterey and watch the sun rise over the ocean and walk on the beach....  Me me!!  (I need to not write messages when I'm that tired...)

Argh, parents visiting me that weekend.  They're already anti-bike enough without me ditching them for a ride with you guys

Hope you have a great visit with the units.

If anyone wants to come down Saturday evening, that's not a problem.
I don't have a social life so I'll be home ready to wrench
Dinner at Smalleys sounds good
I'll probably be working, but I can arrange to make it a short day.
So mid afternoon I can be home.

Oh no! Is it that damn driveway?!  :o Or that hill?  :o Did it get your other ankle?

I hope the blender gets shut off and your life is poured out as a, uh, refreshing and delicious smoothie...?  :dunno_white:

My Grandmother is in the hospital on moriphine; she is 89, her body is shutting down and she is in pain.  If I fly out tomorrow, to Michigan, I may not be back for the ride, but I wanted you all to know where I would be.  I hope you all have a(nother) good ride.

I may end up having to skip this ride after all.

Mostly, I'm just really, really, really tired. I know it doesn't sound like a "good excuse" but it's the only one I got. This tired rider does not make for a good rider. I'll see if I'm feeling any better by the week's end.      If not, I'm going to spend the weekend in bed paying back some sleep debt so I don't get sick.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother
My moms going to be 90 in Nov., so I think about things happening alot. It's never easy.

As for being tired :bs:
It's tuesday night. go to bed :cookoo:
I've been holding off on sending out the 05 advancer, so I can try it on your bike this weekend.
I'm 99% healthy now, So no wimping out now :flipoff:
Title: Re: Monterey Bay ride Aug 24th

Yeah, I knew I was gonna get called  :bs:  on that. But it's true.   I've been working ridiculous hours...in fact, just got home less an hour ago.

It sucks and I am not a happy camper.

I sleep as much as I can but it's not very good sleep. I'm just trying to get through until Labor Day. I'll get a little breather at that point.

Bob, you're not holding the 05 advancer for me, are you? Because I'm riding a 99.  :dunno_white:  I'm really glad you're feeling 99% though!  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I'll do my best...

Nice pics :icon_mrgreen:

If you look close you'll see your big mistake.
Using the front brake :2guns:
If you feel you can't make the corner, straighten up the bike and hit the brakes to scrub off as much speed as possible while on the pavement.
Then as you go off the pavement, let go of all the brakes and go straight.
Then gently use the rear brake only to slow down enough to turn if possible.
T-hill has great runoff and solid ground, so that crash was avoidable.
It takes practice to overide the instinct to stay on the brakes.

Good thing you didn't fix the fender ;)

You called it all spot-on 100% accurate Bob. I didn't know WTF I'd done until I saw the pics...then it glared out at me.  :o

I think perhaps in 10 track days or so, I'll have the instincts to better handle something like that. Definitely huge n00b mistakes with that one... I'm going to read your instructions above every day 'til I've memorized them and made them one with my soul!

I just ordered the new front fairing...I'm thinking of keeping the old broken front fairing and the broken front fender as "track plastics."

I'm ok today as long as I don't laugh, cough, breathe, and ESPECIALLY not sneeze!  :o :cookoo:

I still need to rip up my bike some to make sure the front end's ok. It wasn't riding too well after unloading from the track day and riding it a few miles, but I'm hoping that was just cuz of the low tire pressure.....

Uhm......I'm thinking I'm going to have to postpone my virgin Monterey/Salinas ride.

I didn't think you got hurt when you went down  Sorry to hear it
My chest and collar bone still hurt too :flipoff:
It's that last bit that takes the longet to heal.
Of course, painting and all dosen't help. :icon_mrgreen:

So who thinks they might make it :dunno_white:
I'd like to know so I can make different plans if nobody is coming.

I came out pretty well..it could have been worse...likely bruised ribs, but there was no way I was gonna let them know at the track, cuz I was afraid they'd pull me off!

I won't make it Sunday :(

Re-schedule? :(

Sept? 13th? 14th? 20th? 21st?

Whoa, Pandy! You have to quit crash testing everything!  :o

Glad you made it out safely though. I love that picture of you sitting in the grass/dirt and there's a dirt cloud in front of you (img 5169); it's like you're sitting on a beach watching the sunset or something.  :icon_mrgreen:

And then the one where both your hands are up (img 5171). You can just hear in the background: "Stand up slowly and keep your hands in the air!"

I'm out, too.   Bob, sorry about this ride falling apart.     You're still the best!  :kiss3:

I'd be down for something in later Sept, too.

Sorry to say, but I'm not interested in the cluster#^*# up there :2guns:
I really don't like dealing with the traffic, cops, bicyclists and all :bs:

I have my ticket already :thumb:

We should meet up at the track

I can tell you where to get tickets at the advanced price even on race day.
Shell station on the corner of Blanco Rd and Main St. (Salinas)

I'm going both days, but I'll be heading out pretty early.

Alright, one day we'll make this ride happen!  Work just dropped a Monday deadline on me so I'm probably not even going with my friends tomorrow.

Unfortunately I'll be in SD the weekend of the 27th, but it sounds like fun.
