Title: Tank Petcock, but no frame petcock. Should I purchase a frame petcock?
Post by: cosmiccharlie on August 06, 2008, 06:20:06 PM
When I bought my bike it was rigged to work with out the frame mounted switch/petcock.  Should I find the frame mounted piece to use or will it function properly with it bypassed?

it will work fine w/o it. But in case you have float trouble or need to shut the fuel off for some reason its best to have one  You can get any ole petcock that will fit the lines, getting a non GS one is prob. better, so you can bypass the crappy vaccume deal

It should work in a pinch but could lead to problems.  The reserve pickup and setting on the petcock is the only way besides cracking the tank open to check the fuel level.

More importantly, the frame petcock allows you to stop the flow of gasoline from the tank to the carbs.  This is usually not a problem but if a float doesn't seat properly then gas could leak into the cylinder and cause hydro lock (read "potential damage").

I'd say get a frame petcock asap they're not too expensive and some members prolly have one or seven lying around, if not check here for a honda without the vacuum:

If you do eliminate the vacuum make sure to cap the vacuum port on the carb so it's not sucking extra air.

Im dealing with this issue in a rouond about way as well.

I don't have room in the Stk. location for the petcock and am trying to figure what to do next. Probably CRF Honda unit.

More importantly, I want Pics Cosmic, your the reason my Torch, Sawzall and Mig have gotten a work out.
