Anyone have trouble "slipping on" a F1r exhaust? I cut off 4.5 inches from the weld on the stock exhaust, like they suggested,  and it seems a little short guns: . It doesn't line up with the hanger when fully installed. I should've remembered, " When they say 4.5 start with 4."  Any ideas? Also, it says no jetting is neccessary but I would think that a different jetting would be recommended. Right now I'm at 37.5 and 127.5(I think, but I'll have to check).

you sure your instructions say 4.5"? I always thought (and thought I read their instructions online) that said 4"...   :?

I installed an F1R on my '01 and got noticeable improvement without rejetting...then I rejetted and it got better.  You'll like the sound, shorter warm-up on starting, and smoother running especially in the lower powerband.

As far as cutting off too much, maybe you can piece it together with the scrap you have, and just weld & clamp...it may not look great, but it'll work.  Maybe some silver duct-tape over the welds???

Yeah, the Cobra exhausts are cheap, plain looking (once you yank the cheesy graphics -- do that before you get it hot) and make the GS500 sound like mean machine indeed.  If you throw on the Cobra, rejet, and put on an advancer, I think you'll find it's practically like having a new motorcycle altogether.  My wife has a brand new SV650 and I must say the tuned GS begins to be comparable.

But, hmmmm, Measure Twice/Cut Once or something like dat, willya?

The cobra took some man handling to get on,  ended up loosening all the bands and giving it a twist to get it lined up with the bolt bracket, and then still had to actually pull it apart and then wrestle it on piece by piece to get it to all line up and go on.

But once there it was spiff.  Performance improved noticeably if not drastically.  Still playing with the tuning after jetting and uni air filter, it's a bit boggy, but there is almost no need for choke and warm up time now!
