Im looking into gettin a new front sprocket for my 500, just wana get a little bit more pull outa it, but i really dont wana sacafice too much top speed. I regularly hit 100 and have toped it out a tad under 120. I just want to beable to crack 100 with a new sprocket.
Anyone??
Thanks

+1 on dgyver's link.
Be careful of those rpm's when you're doing top end speeds. Don't wanna grenade the engine ;) since there is NO REV LIMITER.
more pull for lower speeds = a 15T
easy to wheelie = 14T
scary easy wheelie = 13T
15t = 500 (give or take) more rpm's at whatever speed; it's not really noticable of an increase on the interstate, but the pull is much better down low. my personal experience.
Try it out first and see if you might like it, that's why you have a tranny. :)
6th gear ratio is .851 and 5th is .961.
So 16T x .851/.961 = 14.2T approx
If you leave it in 5th gear with a stock 16T front sprocket and try top speed you will have very close to what you would have in 6th gear with a 14T front sprocket.

top speed with a 14t will be aroun 115ish. and with a 13t it will be around 105.

your bike must be the fastest GS ever. My unfaired with a 14t tops out at about 105 indicated. and honestly, why the hell do you need to go any faster?
what the hell 105 with a 14t is slow as hell or your shifting way to soon. I shift as late as possible maybe around 9.5 or 10k and can hit well over 105 on the freeway.
I did the 15th tooth and am impressed, I like it.
i went down the line from a 15t didnt make a difference, a 14t it was good but too much work trying to get her up on one wheel, now the 13t kicks ass if you want easy wheelies and still be able to ride the freeway at 80,90 even 100mph still.
I sort of want to do the opposite, put on a 17 or 18t so I can cruise at 70-90 at lower RPMS.
Ok great, thanks guys. The gearing calculator is excellent. Ive decided to go with 14tooth front sprocket. I found one on fatbikez.com for $42 i think im gonna get.
I will definatly post up some info once installed. :thumb:
Way too much for a front sprocket, around $15 is about right.

Its really really slow ... I left it to roll down hill, and came back 2 hours later and it was still there ...
Cool.
