Title: What color should I paint the tail of my GS?
Post by: Juan1 on August 11, 2008, 04:12:39 PM
The side plastic on my GS500 broke, and I ebayed a used one of a different color.  The tank of my bike is pearl black (1989), a color that would be impossible to match with a rattle can, so I plan on painting the tail a different color.  What colors do you suggest?  Should I paint the front fender and stock flyscreen too?  Let me hear your opinions.

It's your bike. You choose.

A candied deep teal, with a pearl white, high gloss frame

Don't get me wrong, I do have something in mind, but I wanted to see some other ideas.

Standard rat/streetfighter - flat black
Wanting to be popular, but 2 years too late - hot pink with black graphics
Very clean - Gloss black frame and plastics
Really wanting a kawasaki - bright green
Wanting to get noticed - bright orange
wanting to be cheap - clear the whole thing, just getting rid of grease, but leaving the rust

I personally like the gloss black and gloss black.  Very clean, minimalistic, and lets the shape speak for itself.

Fine.  Gloss white, though the florescent orange or "Hig Viz Yellow" (aka SlimeLime - firetruck yellow) has it's own sick appeal. Purple, then you'll appeal to Pandy. Whatever color it is now, then you don't have to do any work. Zebra stripes. Tiger Stripes. Polka Dots. Leopard spots. Snow Leopard (now THAT will need a talented air-brush artiste.) Flower-power-flowers. Blue, red, green, speaking of Red Green, just cover it in duct tape, or yellow in front of your legs and brown behind to impress passers-by with just how terrifying the GS is to ride.

I actually think that doing a full bike in big cat patterns would be a really neat thing, but I've concluded that it would also be really stoo-pid, having lost my small cat in plain sight enough times - the patterns really do break up the outline and make it less visible - good for show, not so much for riding on the street. Ditto for camo (aw, heck, I forgot that in the above list - desert or forest).

have you seen the new 'whiskers' mod?   :cookoo:

or how how about adding 5 feet of pipe to your exhaust and making it stick straight up out of your rear plastics... that'll complete the kitty look.

In all seriousness....

just take off your tank and front fender and repaint them all black.  Thats what I would do.  But only if I didn't have 5 feet of pipe lying around...
