Got the new rattle can paint rollin' along with some Bikemaster Superbike bars, new Suzuki grips, Third Eye bar end mirror, and Superbike anti vibration silver bar end. A new IRC 140/70-17 rear tire, JT sprockets front and rear (stock tooth count) , '06 GS rim, and new EK Xring chain are visible also.

Not bad for a 15 year old bike :thumb: How do you like those superbike bars?

If you take care of them, motorcycles can remain beautiful throughout their lives.
Here is my 1991 GS500E with 23K miles...

Seventeen years old and counting.
This is what good maintenance does.

I like the Superbike bars alot. The riding position can get a little tiresome after a 1/2 hour or so at highway speeds vs. the stock bar, but a slight shift in riding/hand position remedies this. They are an inch or so wider so they give better leverage and feedback than stock. I would not go back to the stock bar.
Trw, what is that windshield on your bike?
Hi pkhoff,
It's a National Cycle light-tinted F-15 Tour Shield, model # N2522.
Here's the National Cycle link:
http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/N2522?mv_session_id=NxQ8azqC&search_model=su-022%22
It retails for $104.95, which I thought was a good deal. I bought it at my local dealer, which always gives me good prices.
I like the fairing a lot, it's not too big but not too small. Plus it looks good on the bike, I think.
Here's an alternative...
There is another one that they make that I covet, but I'm not sure it can be made to fit the GS500 very well.
It's the Plexifairing GT:

The company says it won't work, but I doubt that. I do, however, wonder if it would look too big or not cover well enough around the headlight housing. Maybe someone else has tried it?
I hope that helps.
Yours,
Trwhouse

I might have told you this before, but this is almost a copy of what I used to have. Beautiful that blue is.
That same rare blue 91 colors but my frame was 89. I have kept the body in fact and hope to put it back on the road in short order with that came body. I sold that bike for 650 bucks with ugly grey and silver and primer. Figured I'd give the guy a $100 break in $$ and he was thrilled.
Cool.
Buddha.
Thanks Buddha,
Yes, I like it too.
Maybe that's why I've kept the bike all these years. I bought it in 1993 with 136 miles on and have owned it ever since.
Take care,
Trwhouse

Appologies to commuterdude for hijacking his thread and turning it into a windshield/fairing thread.
I hope that helps.

I have yet to meet a Plexifaring I couldn't put on most any bike but it does take some cutting and fitting sometimes. National cycle won't confirm any fitment they haven't tried. I currently use a Plexi 2 made for a CM400 on my 02 GS for winter without alteration:
I put it on the 97 GS when I first got it and it stuck out too far in front of the headlight and was lit up at night so I put on the flatter one from the Nighthawk 650 I traded on the GS and used it for a season. After adding the GenMar risers moving the bars back, the CM400 model fit perfect and looked much better with it's rounder more streamlined shape. The overall shape is more important than the fitment around the headlight. The Plexi 2 provides so much more protection from the cold and from the rain than my Spitfire summer screen does but I still prefer the smaller Spitfire in warmer weather.
They make a Plexi GT for the SV650 and show a pic of it on a 599. Probably would adapt to the GS500 but don't know for sure and National Cycle will never try it since they haven't sold the naked GS here in this country since 2002.
Mine started out as a white 89, but somewhere along the line I bought that tank in near new shape cos it would not ever stop leaking. Then a few years later bought the body from kevin caldwell in canada. So by 2001 I had a blue set, and in 2000 when I crashed and destroyed the tank on the white one, I swapped it for the blue.
But in 04 se7enty7 gave me his white set for turning his 89 into an 04. So I have a complete white set too. I also bought some blue stuff from heatherg last year.
Cool.
