Title: another one of frankies GStwins group hug moments
Post by: frankieG on August 12, 2008, 10:48:20 AM
i gotta tell you folks we are very fortunate to have a site like gstwins.  the amount of information on our chosen bike is outstanding with no rival.  not only that but the community is so close and friendly we are like a family.  i have and do belong to other sites and they are no where near as good as this one.  much of the time is spent flaming others and general infighting.   gstwins is by far, in my opinion, not only the best motorcycle site but one of the best sites on the net.

group hug...luv u guys

I second the thought behind this thread.

With the help of this forum, in the last month I've been able to buy a beater GS500, replace a stator coil, replace a voltage regulator, fix a rattling tank, rebuild front and rear calipers, and rebuild front forks with upgraded internals.

Perhaps I have been too nice recently and have not stirred enough poop...

Hell I'm to tired anymore.

Juan - you shouldn't have done any of the FE related stuff, you could have gone katana FE for about that much $$$ ... cost of brake pad+ disk, a fork seal + spring = kat FE. And kat brakes last 8-10 times (OKOK they are more $$ if you have to swap em ... but maybe not really cos plenty of those good ones on ebay) ... BTW kat rotors are supposedly 4.5mm min thickness, and I dont see how those brakes are more stressed than a GS one. OK maybe for a kat, and maybe cos suzuki slapped the same rotors on a 100 other bikes..
Cool.

My front rotor is still good, so I was able to save money there.  Even with that in mind, I'm sure the Kat front end would have been well worth it if I planned on keeping the bike for more than a year.  In a year I hope to be on an SV650 though, and I'll probably do a Gixxer FE swap on that.

Juan - I hear you on the selling part ... However I sold a GS with a Kat FE for the highest $$ I have ever sold a GS for ... And I liked riding it more too.
Anyway, its a pretty involved project. I can swap them in an hour or so but I have done a dozen+ Sorta like carbs. I have done them in 10 mins. And that was slow. Oooo I have a lift that can yank the bike up so I can toss a near fully assembled FE on it. And I take out the old one the same way.
Cool.

the community is so close and friendly we are like a family.

yes... an inbred beef-eating backwards old-fashioned head in the sand red state whiskey tango family that votes for mccain and distrusts anything resembling progress or forward thinking. But a family nonetheless.
