Hey all,
I'm very VERY new to riding. Just took the MSF this week. But I can already tell that some things just aren't right.
- My clutch has absolutly no friction zone anywhere in the range which is causing me some problems
- Shifting from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 1st is stiff as hell every now and then (as in having to put all my leg muscles into it).
- There is a LOT of play in my throttle. When it is at dead rest, it takes a 5th to a quarter of a turn before the slack comes out of it and the throttle actually starts. Is there a way I can fix this?
I've read on some forum posts a few ways to adjust the friction zone, however, anyone know of a guide with pictures? I don't really trust myself to start looking around on the bike and saying to myself "hey, this must be the thingy he was talking about. lets start adjusting it". If not, anyone know about how much a shop would charge for doing the adjustment (barring any major mechanical problems that is causing the issues)?
And also, anyone have any ideas on what the issue may be with the gear shift?
Thanks,
Chris
throttle cable can be tightend at the carb
your clutch can be adjusted alittle bit up at the grip
1-2 2-1 should be stiff but not as bad as you make it sound.
im wondering if your cluch isn't disangaging all the way. - were does you clutch start to grab right at the handle bars Or almost all the way out

My clutch starts to grabs in the last quarter of an inch. And even not letting it out, just staying in that tiny spot, theres no pull to it worth mentioning (I can fell the bike start to lurch in a forward direction a tiny bit, but not enough to actually make the bike move at all. Just a little movement in the suspension). This is a huge problem to me because I live in the mountains, and I'm going to be starting off uphill a lot.

Follow the dang links in the recent clutch posts, and you'll find pictures and a video. Cripes, it was YESTERDAY, we should not have to rehash every detail for every person. Three links, follow them ALL. Video AND pretty pictures are right in front of your nose.

Gear shift problem most likely:
Bad clutch adjustment.
Low oil.
Just like <edit> is mentioned aside from the when to shift issue </edit>in the referenced thread.
