The part I am looking for is the rubber pad that goes between the upper gas tank and the frame of my 91 gs500. Losing this rubber piece has been the biggest headache...the tank rattles so loud it can be heard over the sound of the engine and exhaust unless I cruise at 8k rpm. I've tried many things in its place, but nothing does the trick. It drains all the fun out of riding. It sounds like mechanical flesh constantly being ripped apart. If anyone has ever seen this part and knows where it can be purchased please post a link. It would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Reading the board often helps.

I got one at a dealer for cheap. They had to order it, but it wasn't expensive at all...
Is this it?

Shipping seems a bit high though. May want to try the dealer first. Not sure if it'll work with a 91. This is from an F model.
Local dealer is almost certainly the best bet, as shipping doubles or triples the price, and the price is low. Or use one of the alternate chunks of rubber suggested for free, or nearly free. I think the part is the same for all years - no reason for it to be different, all tanks fit all years, so the bottoms are the same.
Thanks for help, I searched the boards, but very briefly...I suppose searching "rattling tank" would have showed better results than "gas tank pad."
I've taken my tank off 20 times in the last 3 days... that piece of rubber could easily be replaced by a bunch of duct tape or a piece of split rubber tubing. Be creative! Otherwise, shop online.

Just saw this in the For Sale section:

Ordered the part, just put it on. Tank still rattles. Nothing out of what I'd expect. Every vehicle I've ever owned has been like this, part breaks, buy new part, usually doesn't fix it or something else immediately breaks. I guess some people are just born to have bad luck with machines.
Sorry to hear the problem persists.
Vibration problems can be caused by unsynchronized carburetors, or by improperly torqued engine mounting bolts. You may want to look at those next.
Are the other 6 chunks of rubber present and not hard and crunchy?
There are two pads under the middle bottom of the tank, and a set of doughnuts and tees around the rear bracket mounting bolts.
