Title: Question for the "Lifters"
Post by: Revere2 on August 18, 2008, 12:08:45 PM
and physiologists out there. If one had arthroscopic surgery (shoulder) and was recovering, doing therapy, do you think that one could benefit by ingesting creatine thereby hastening recovery a bit? I've been doing the range of motion therapy and now in addition, have moved to the machines. I am starting my 9th week of recovery and still in pain in some movements and very weak strengthwise. Do any of y'all think this would help me or hinder me?  Many thanks.

Hell no. It will make it worse. Creatine is good for two things. Water retention and kidney damage. Stick with isometric exercises with the bands. Use more joint-friendly supplements like your chondroitin-glucosamine-MSM and microlactin. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks.

Water retention- Yes
Kidney Damage- Not so much, you would have to take just insane amounts daily for an extended period of time.
Help Wilson's shoulder- No

Wilson- go find your nearest vet that works on large animals and ask for some DMSO for one of your 'livestock'.  It was never FDA approved for use on humans, but works incredibly for this type of pain and soreness.  Some people react to it (usually just burns if you react) so try it on a small area away from the area that already hurts.  It should feel warm, that means it's working, just not painful.  We used it all the time on the thoroughbreds and I still keep some around for particularly sore days.  Just make sure that all the incisions and such are healed or I'll hear the scream over here in SC.

As a drug dealer, I approve SPC's message on creatine. lol   The DMSO, I have not clue about as it's not used much on people where I practice. Sounds like I'm going to have to check on it some.

I should have clarified about creatine. My bodybuilders get in trouble when they get dehydrated or use it for prolonged periods of time. it is not my favorite. There are other better substances out there. First off, make sure you get rid of the swelling. DMSO will help but make sure you use gloves to apply it and keep it covered and do not let women near it. It affects their reproductive system. Also, it can be toxic to the environment just as the wiki says. There are other methods to get you better. Try acupuncture and chinese herbals and massage. They do well with me. Alternate between icing and heat. Heat the shoulder before exercise and ice it afterwords. Use biofreeze when possible but don't combine it with DMSO. One or the other but not both in the same area at the same time. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Thanks for all the replies! I will stay AWAY from the Creatine! I live under an ice bag some days and have a heating pad that will damn near give 2nd degree burns. I have to watch that in the bed. How about ultra Ben ghey instead of of the DMSO? I do alternate the heat and cold. Thanks again.

after i got hit one of the most difficult wounds of mine to heal was that of my left shoulder, it still bothers me to this day.  but i found that heat helped it more than icing it did.

Thank y'all for all the advice. I will take heed. Yes it is my left shoulder. They shaved the Acromion (sp?) and cut some tendons at the top of the rotator cuff (due to an impingement there) to allow them to "meld" and "heal" with the ones below. My shoulder was "frozen", even after being "under" the Dr. said they could not move it so they ripped it forward then rearward and took microshears and cut all the scar tissue from around the socket/cap, then the razor vaccuum to get all the "shaZam!" out. Also shaved a spur in the socket. After 8 weeks I am doing well according to them and for my age. Therapy 3 times a week is the order of the day along with self therapy at home. The pain never quite goes away. 54 years old ain't like being 20. Only "in my mind". hahahahahahahah. Thanks to everyone.

Oh.........one more thing..........I want to thank "some" sons and daughters of female dogs for seeing to it that no one knows my birthday. You sorry ass scum deleted my join date, all my information, most ALL of my posts, re-worded the ones left and even deleted my location on the GS-Twins Map that isn't even a part of this site. I wanted to let you subhuman pieces of shaZam! know that "I" haven't forgotten...........not one "ioda". Maybe one day I'll get a chance to "help" you...in the way that you've aided "me". f%$k you (from an old man).
