so i asked the dealer if i needed an impact screwdriver to undo screws for rejetting and they said no. so i tried it and wouldnt you know they were wrong. so now i havent stripped them all the way but i have tried enough to know if i go anymore they will be stripped. so what do i do to get these screws out. dreemel a slot and use flat head or am i gonna have to take them to a mech and have him do it? and what is the replacement part # for allen head srews to fill the void? All i have is general tools so i dont know what i would drill brass with to get screws out and what drill do i use to pop out brass caps to get5 my three turns out? THanks guys.

01+ :2guns: :2guns: ... dont have in SS yet, I will buy it maybe in a month or so. But I have allen head steel ones ... or get at homedepot/ace 4mm dia, 10mm long. They dont have SS usually, but steel allens, yes they do. BTW cant get buton head in these, the wrench is too small ... I'd rather do regular allen heads even in SS.

Hey Buddha well i took the carb into town with me today and stopped at the yamaha dealer and the guy in the shop used an impact driver and loosened all 12 screws for me! What a save! then went to ace and got the allen head ss screws i needed. crazy thing is that there is never a dealer open on Monday but just happen that today the yama was. BUT!!!! i think i remember on the poor mans rejetting pictorial that there was an O-ring on the needle side that i was suppossed to be carefull not to lose. well i opened up the needle side and i see no O-ring! :cry: So hopefully tomorrow when i get to the dealer they might have them in stock. I gotta find the part # though. Oh I've got a 2005 gsf.
you don't need an impact driver, you just need the proper screwdriver.
hint: japanese #2 phillips screws are NOT the same as an american #2 screw!! Thus, your normal screwdriver is not the proper tool
I guess now I know, you are getting allen bolts, and all the jets shortly ... sorry.
Now 12 bolts ??? there is 8 float bowl ... and the ones on top too ... that being stuck can be bad news cos the top is plastic. make sure its not broken.

I would try soaking in WD40, then use a phillips screwdriver bit for an electric screwdriver, put it in the screw and hit it with a hammer to loosen the screw. then try again with regular screwdriver using plenty of downward pressure. Its amazing how much difference that little(or even medium) tap can do.
Remember rule #1: If it won't move you're not using a big enough hammer! :nono: :laugh:
Take a small pair of Vice-Grips, lay them sideways on the screw head...I broke all 8 screws loose this way in under a minute then replaced with Allen Heads on assembly. The screw in the photo is one of the screws from my '07 :cheers:

OK so i was looking on the parts fiche for the 2005 gsf and noticed there are two different bikes one made for sale in the USA and one NOT for sale in the USA. now the difference i seen was that the O-ring on the baffle cover of the carb (poor mans jetting pictorial) doesnt exist in the fiche for the bike made in the USA. Why Not?
Yea little vice grips are insanely good, except you need to really really get very very good ones with nice hardened jaws, else they will turn to cheese after a few uses.
Then ... do not hit the damn carb bodies with a hammer - as in - impact screwdriver - excellent tool, just wrong useage situation.
I dunno what will break, cos I've never done it ... But may guess from the carbs I saw in the last few weeks ... the tops ... the guides ... the T fitting on the top ... maybe.
So dont push me for details on this ... just use a good professional grade right size head screwdriver and if it still tears the head, drill it out. I prefer to drill over cutting a groove, too easy to hit other things with the cutting blade ... but either one depending on what you are comfortable with.
Impact driver ... no ... drill and easy out, left drill and it spins out, or cutting a slot and using flat screwdriver - all good options.
