Title: GS500 Guage faces
Post by: Batalia on August 25, 2008, 10:10:36 PM
Can the faces on the gs500 gauges be changed in color.  I want white and I'm wondering if anyone sells the faces.

I'm not even sure you can get at the face of the gauge without destroying it...

There are several photoshop files on the internet (http://tinyurl.com/2rfwr).
To open the gauges, you have to bend the metal rim on the back open - slowly does the trick, otherwise your gauges won't look round anymore.
You can then either cut a slit in your printout or carefully pull the needle of - you have to adjust the needle afterwards though, there is some pressure on the spring even at 0 revs.
I've taken my rev counter apart to fit an oil-thermometer in. It is doable, but take your time!

Also clean the glass whilst you have it open.

I did a writeup on how to put LED's into your gauges...and in the process took them apart for curiosity.

The actual faces are glass (unless they've changed), the ones on the link above were on a '96.
