Title: GS 650
Post by: theGrinch on August 26, 2008, 05:54:16 AM
Was printed in a French magazine yesterday:
http://img53.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gse650jy9.jpg

As we've been in touch with the head of marketing of SUZUKI Germany quite a bit regarding our wiki... we inquired. Answer: Please understand that we can't comment on the 2009 models at this point, but end of September will shed light on things."

In my mind that's not a yes, but defo not a no!

So what do you think?
I like the liquid cooled engine, double front brakes & exhaust.

it looks just like an SV650 to me

Looks like a revised SV650 naked to me and I can't see why Suzuki would replace the venerable twin with something like this. I could see how they might re-work the twin into a new liquid cooled motor perhaps like Kawasaki did with the Versys motor.

That pic looks like the SV650N noir with a revised rear.

The SV650 is almost certainly dead - at least that's what most of us in Europe expect. We'll see what happens in September.
But I can see what you mean - the similarities are stunning.

I dont care if its a suzuki ... but they call a V twin a GS ... I'll go over to the local dealer and personally write SV on it with my key.
GS = inline clowns ... or have your forgotten your own naming convention.
BTW we need a new parallel twin. Or ... leave it alone.
Cool.

Rumours about dropping the SV make me sad.

BTW, I call photochop on the "GSE 650" pic. :icon_rolleyes:

Why would they drop the SV650 ? It's one of the best sellers worldwide, they'll drop the GS before anything else

That GSE650 picture doesn't look like a v-twin to me.  Could be a inline twin or four.  No room for a rear cylinder under that low seat and no pipes coming down except at front.  The reference to Bandit components and the 650 displacement might indicate it has a Bandit 650 inline four engine?

Put your key away Buddha, who says we'll even see it here in US.  There are many mid size naked bikes available around the world that don't sell here in the land of big v-twin cruisers and supersport bikes.

Anybody here that can read French?

If you read the french text it mentions the inline twin being replaced with the V-twin 650 motor.

This move wouldn't make any sense.  And if the sv is dead in eu as you say, why would they replace it with something that looks almost exactly like the sv without a split level seat.

I just wish they'd bring the gsr600 over to the states.  Damn I want that bike.

Anybody here that can read French?

The small paragraph on the right hand side near the headlight says: a light redesign and a SV650 engine is in the forecast for the '09 GSE
Below: Among the news that were released, it looks like Suzuki will revamp its small GSE. As an entry level bike, it should reuse already existing components in order to sell for a low price. Therefore, the current 500cc parallel twin could be replaced (*note the use of the conditional*) by the 650cc V twin already known by SV650 owners. As a steel frame still seems to be used, a "cycle part" (don't know how to translate that.. basically forks, suspensions, brakes.. everything but frame and engine)coming from the bandit would get along very well with these new features. With a redesigned look, this GSE650 should appeal to bikers looking for a reliable entry level bike.

So I'm not the best translator in the world; I tried to stick to the original wording as much as possible. Honestly, I call bs on most of the text. It sounds very gossipy to me.. kinda like they base all their description on this one picture, projecting what they would like to see in the picture (might be worth it to note that moto-revue, the magazine, is a weekly... they need to sell paper..)

I guess we'll see in Sept., and somehow I hope I'm wrong.. a 650 twin with upgraded forks and brakes for the price of a gs.. that would be sweet...

Just a couple of thoughts that may or may not be correct, the picture looks like a photoshop guess of what is to come but my guess would be they will drop the Vtwin motor and stick in a 650 burgman motor (inline twin) with a gear box attached to it instead of the CV box. Which would make it more a GS then a renamed SV as the SV 1000 is dead the 650 can't be far behind and the inline twin would be more of a competitor for the ER6 and it would be cheaper for Suzuki to make inline twins then Vtwins (2 heads and barrels -v- 1 of each). the burgman motor by memory is also fuel injected and watercooled so spec wise is a match for the ER6 so thats just my thoughts feel free to correct me if you feel I'm wrong its just my guess.
Also to all those drooling over the GSR600 forget about it. I was drooling when I first heard of them then they came out to Australia and the overall quality and finish of the bike is awful they haven't sold that well I guess because of the quality of the bike and they don't look near as good in the flesh as they do in pictures funnily enough just like the BKing, talk about ugly in the flesh so much so they have been on sale for a few months here but have not seen 1 on the road yet.
Anyway again they are just my thoughts :thumb:

that "GS650" is a hoax.  its clearly a photoshop of a GS500 fuel tank and some other bits onto an SV650N frame with pretty much EVERYTHING being stock SV parts.  lame.

Well there have been rumours about a "new" GS for quite some years, so I thought about a Hoax as well, especially as the pic really looks very photoshoped. What really caught my attention was the reply we got from SUZUKI... Well, we'll see what happens, can't change it anyway.
Another thing is that the carbs version doesn't meet European pollution restriction, SUZUKI wasn't officially allowed to sell the 2008 model, there are just a few of them in Germany sold via a tiny loophole.

I still volunteer to be a testrider for a new GS, but as pointed out in the German forum: If they'd let us testride it and followed our instructions - it would be a tad expensive for a GS

Looks like the rumours about a new SV650-engined entry-level bike were kinda true.
Meet the new Gladius 650 by Suzuki (http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/mcn/2008/september/22-28/sep2508-Official-picture-2009-Suzuki-Gladius/).

Look behind the badge........Dunno about the USA but that bike will bomb in the Uk and go down like the Titanic did. Ever heard the saying "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"?......no one is going to pay £4.2k for a blatent ER-6F rip off.

ER is so much better than the SV ... its a parallel twin ... they should put the ER in an aluminum frame ... Instead of suzuki making more crapola with steel ... we need aluminum dammit.
Cool.

OK, that shade of blue with white needs to be on a scooter.  The black doesn't look too bad.  Then they have a mini-site (http://www.gladiusstyle.com/) that is clearly style over substance.  They going to try to sell these at Old Navy?  :cookoo:

I like the look of it a lot.  However, for the price I would probably go in another direction--especially brand new.
