Title: Swapped '89 Clip-Ons onto an '07
Post by: bikejunkie223 on August 26, 2008, 12:39:17 PM
So, today on my lunch break I swapped the '89 upper crown/clip-ons onto my '07. I have no pics until I get home, but I do have a couple of observations to share.
1: The clip on setup will fit directly onto an '07, and the handlebar lock will still be totally usable without any modification whatsoever or interference with the fairing/tank. if you were to turn the bars to full lock while riding, you would however pinch your hand between the tank and bars, other than that none of the switchgear or anything causes and issue with the tank.
2: The real clearance issue comes from the front brake lever. The banjo bolt is pressed up against the gauge cluster, and you cannot rotate it down to clear because the front brake switch then contacts the clip-on tube clamp so it fits, just, but the brake lever is angled up a bit more than I would choose. My Buddah tubes should clear this up, but any longer tube with a re-drilled hole for the switchgear to mount  farther away from the guages and let you move the brake lever away from the guages would also fix this.

So basically that's it. I'll post pictures tonight if I get a chance. the riding position is 2-3" lower than with the stock bars, and it makes the dashboard of the bike look much cleaner IMO. Now to do something about those pegs...

Dude ... you want straight tubes, longer by 1 1/2 inches, so brake banjo will not hit the dash ... but no bend in it ??? as in ... you dont need your thumbs that much do ya ... ???
Those I have sitting in my car, I can send it in the next 90 mins. Bending ... yea ... you know that whole sad story.
The sad thing is, you have to bend the tubes before you cut them, cos you're not going to be able to grip 1 inch of the tube and bend the other 11 inches ...
Cool.
Buddha.

No, I want the bent tubes as well, so I don't have to worry about my paws getting pinched, I'm just saying in a pinch they work as stock. I will patiently await your appropriately bent tubes and run them as they are in the meantime.
