Should I fiddle with the clutch freeplay adjustment to tailor engagement point?

I'm just wondering for those with more motorcycle wrenching experience than me, do you guys see a problem with dialing in a bit more freeplay in the clutch cable so the friction point is closer to the bar? I know if you do too much the clutch won't disengage all the way, and too little it may not engage totally, but do you think there is room to play with it a bit without hurting anything or am I better off leaving it as it is?
Oh yea there is a fair bit. Just made sure the cable is nice and lubed up. Else you may not be disengaging when you pull in.
BTW this issue will disappear by the time you get ~500 miles down. Like my complaining the damn POS nissan I have has no tach. 5 days of drivign later, I never over rev, never likely to stall, I just sometimes am not too quick on following someone on their bumper at traffic lights. That is all.

when you do this please write it up; I need to do the same thing -- it feels like the friction point is almost all the way out.
I'd do some experimenting myself (and will do eventually) but I won't get back to my bike until next Tuesday.
Do you plan to adjust at the bar end, or the tranny end?
I'll just do it at the bar end- lots of adjustment available and its easy to do and undo if it sucks
I did exactly that to mine. I wanted the bite to be closer to the bar so it had a similar feel to my bandit clutch which is hydraulic.
The bike has done a high mileage and it seems not to have had an adverse effect.
The only issue would be if you dial it so close to the bar that the clutch is still partially engaged when the lever is against the bar. That will burn it. A touch of free play is good; too much is bad.
Right, I'm thinking instead of 5-10mm of freeplay more like 15-20mm- in the middle not right off the bar.
So I adjusted it, and liked the friction point better, but the trans was notchier on downshifts as I was slowing to a stop at a stop sign or whatever, which tells me the clutch was dragging a bit with that much freeplay, so I adjusted it back to the 5-10mm recommended by Suzuki. It was a good experiment at least...
