Post by: nofearblackstar on August 28, 2008, 08:06:24 AM
i changed and balanced my rear tire . i was woundering if i could set the bead using the starter fluid trick?

Ive set my jeep beads tons of times like this but not sure if it is safe on such a small tire

Starter fluid trick?

I lube up the tire well with the same soapy water I use to change it, then pump it to a bit higher than operating pressure to set the bead, then bleed down.

There's no need for starter fluid or anything close on a motorcycle tire.

Lube up the rim and bead with soapy water and apply air.  Removing the valve core will increase the air flow if you have a small leak.

Barring that, put a ratchet strap around the outside of the tire and chinch it down a little until it pushes the bead against the rim.  Air it up and go.
