Title: Startup and shutdown
Post by: philward on August 29, 2008, 05:14:31 AM
This guy has added sounds to his bike.  His video made me laugh so I thought I'd share.

Here's his page (http://www.winfreddekreij.com/arduino).

I hate those sounds when Windows makes them. Why would you make other things make them? I guess it could be kind of a funny prank to play on someone else...

Microsoft puts things like startup / shutdown sounds, progress indicators, flashy boot screens, etc so you know it's doing SOMETHING while you're waiting forever for it to reboot. Or update. Or connect to the internet.

It's a pretty sad thing that code written so poorly is supplemented with graphics visuals and sounds instead of just getting the damned job done.

Yes, I'm a linux/unix/bsd/mac zealot. ;)

No, I'd never add a startup sound to my bike. I need a speed indicator, and an oil light. The rest is just fruitcake junk.
