Title: Mileage Error on Title
Post by: abraxas on August 29, 2008, 10:00:21 AM
The mileage on my '01 GS500 title states 32k miles, the odometer states only ~11,000.  The previous owner says that a mistake was made when he purchased in in '05 and odometer is correct.  Either way, I am not too worried but I am curious as to what I could look for on the bike to find out whether the kid I bought it from was honest or not.

I had run a carfax when I bought it and the bike had only one previous owner before the kid I bought it from.  The bike hasn't had much work or show any signs of an accident so I doubt the odometer had been changed out or anything major like that, plus the kid didn't seem like the type (didn't even have a wrench for me to put my bike ramp together with.

I suppose I could also contact the dealer he bought it from and see if they kept a record of the bike, though I am not sure why they would.

It still could have been in a minor accident before he got it and smashed the gauges. May have never been reported to anyone.

I guess they do weird crap like that.
I had a title with 16 characters in the vin instead of 17.  :cookoo:
With "government help" any crap is not only possible, it happens all the time.
Cool.

Some IDJIT at triple A or DMV added a 0 to my title on my old XT that had 1,250 miles on it when I bought it, making it 12,500 miles, and so they charged me for a year for insurance for a commuter bike before I caught it! I had to take the bike in and SHOW them the odometer reading in person so they could see it had only gone about 400 miles that year,  to get a credit back on my insurance and get my title corrected.

Bet someone did something similar to your title with a PO.  :cookoo:  :icon_rolleyes:   :dunno_white:

I work on helicopters and jets for the government, and a few weeks ago, a LARGE helicopter which was being shook down to go to the customer, was hovering, and the nose gear FELL OUT ONTO THE RUNWAY.  The pilot smoothly and calmly landed it ON WOODEN PALLETS.
