Those bastards! I was just commenting to a friend that I've been seeing a lot of Yamahas and like them but the only one I really wanted was the FZ6, now they have to go and HAVE IT!

Grr!!! I really can't afford another motorcycle, but who knows once I have my T/A and SVX sold . . .

Might be a next bike for me. I think it 'll work well as a commuter bike and it is pretty fast at the same time. It looks a bit like the Fazer 1000 from last year. In Europe this series is named " Fazer"  instead of FZ, The model line exists for a few years in Europe,

older type Fazer 600:

Fazer 1000:

The Fazer 1000 uses a detuned R1 engine with more torque.

Their site has no price up yet.  The bike is supposed to be available in the US in December.

By the way, how about a 14k redline?

Price is supposed to be compeditive with the SVS, so figure low $6K.  About the only thing that is keeping me from running to the dealer to pluck down a deposit is that is has cheapo non adjustable suspension like an SV too.  Not that big a deal but I've gotten spoiled by my YZF.

Suzuki is supposedly retaliating with a total redesign of the bandits, using either the '96+ gen. GSXR engine or perhaps the new one (!).
I'm definately going to the Atlanta bike show in January this year to kick tires!!!!

$8999.00 in Canada.

By comparison, the SV650 is 8,699.00.

if i got an SV i'd want the 100s. the min-fairing. the bellypan. and the double side exaust. just looks awsome. good ratings for a twin.

I like the version without the windscreen better. I hope they decide to sell that one here, too. And I agree, JohnNLA, too bad about the LCD. Other than that, I want one!

In my mind, the FZ6 kicks the SV650 to the curb.

Have you guys seen the new R1?  It is the most insane thing I have ever seen......180 HP/ 379 lbs.  I think they are trying to win the Open Class championship next season.

I can't believe this is a production bike and is street legal. :?

Almost perfect.  I have had my sights set on an FZ1 for quite some time, but was worried about the jump in size and power from the GS.  Yamaha must have heard that conversation.  It even has a centerstand.  While a different instrument package is in order, and the headlights are not exactly what I would have wanted, the rest is just fine.  Now I just need to convice my wife that I need one.   :thumb:

When MCN tested the GSXR-1000 they got 156 HP . . TO THE REAR TIRE! It's about the same weight as the R1. The bikes have become monsters, and almost dangerously light in an attempt to be compedative. I worry about the longevity of the frame when it weights so little and has to control so much power. I think it's only a matter of time until someone starts making titanium or carbon fiber frames just to remain compedative. Of course that would put the cost of the bike into the supercar price range.

I'm with JasonB on this one. Very cool looking bike, but if I were to get it, i'd immediately look to ripping that fairing off.  Imagine this bike totally naked. Mee-Oww.  8)

For European market @ least... my new headlight is in order already ;) (but they wont ship those parts before december 2003)
I think it is most beautiful NakedOne besides X-Rptor and Brutale maybe

Sweet!  I really wish they would have made the naked one available here.

It does look like you could order a stock headlight unit with signals and swap it out easily enough.  The guage pod looks to be the same on both models.  I bet it wouldn't cost too much more since its just a headlight w/signals and brackets.  The tough part would be getting a dealer to try and order one for you although there may be some Euro websites we will be able to use.

I believe that I have now found my next bike :)

We did have a post on here a while back about this bike that I started

I was even starting to consider buying an F4i to turn into a streefighter.  We'll also have to wait and see if the rumors about a naked GSXR are true (rumors from Pablo and another web site)

Don't think so, Yamaha made this bike for Europe becase the nakeds are in expansion here. In the US they're still testing the response, that's why they placed the faired version to sell over there. But I think you can convice your dealer to get you a naked one, I don't think it would be a problem.

How do you think about the power guys? I sold my 1998 GS500e but it was locked to 25 or 33hp ... European version, my max speed was 145km/h (around 90mph or less) ...

What's the difference from going from a carburated engine of the GS to a injection 4 cylinder FZ?

going from the gs to a inline 4 600 isnt THAT big a jump if you are experienced and mature enough to realize you have to treat the new 600 with same respect you did the gs when you started...until you get to know her.

Try jumping from the gs to a liter v-twin like I'm going to do...oh yeah.

Damn guys you're scaring me....I even heard that the FZ's clutch is very sensitive...bah!

I also looked at '97 Honda F3 ... the bike would've cost me twice less than the Fz-6 but it had 25000 on the clock and it was driven hard, plus the sitting possition on that bike was very...like riding a rocket, and I didn't know if I could menage it in a city, it didn't look very versatile.

Title: Maybe...
Post by: The Buddha on March 17, 2004, 09:50:13 AM
Maybe I am too experienced a rider... or maybe I have ridden so many bikes for so long I got used to the differences in bikes...
I always belive HP and/or torque and deft nimble handling is your friend.... Weight is your enemy. At 60mph you are safer on a GSXR1000 than you are on a harley sportster. I'll never change my mind about that... however I am staring to think I should say... that it has the power but you use it and you might get screwed.... Like y'all have said respect for the machine, the roads, the other users of said road, the law and laws of physics.
Cool.
Srinath.
