I am planning on doing a jet kit on a 07 gs500f and i have no clue what size jets to get or what else i will need. If someone could please help me out i would appreciate it. As of right now all i have is a drop in k&n air filter but am planning on an exhaust at some point. What i have been reading is instead of buying the whole kit i can buy the individual parts. Also, where is the best place to buy the jets. Thanks Guys.
do a search for 'rejet matrix' and you'll find jet sizes along with mixture screw turns, needle shim( s ), and all kinds of helpful information.
please don't buy DynoJet kits, they're very expensive, the needles are waaaaay too aggressive (in more ways than one) and it takes all the fun out of it.
i haven't found a reliable jet supplier myself. some are slow, some never deliver at all.
the-buddha has jets, and can help you with getting the right ones in your carbs if you muck up the process.
keep in mind a good set of STOCK needles means smooth, fun, reliable, and easy to tune power. the DJ needles make your throttle more of an ON/OFF switch than a smooth, linear adjustment. ;)
GOod luck, the matrix has you now !
First of all not all K&N filters are the same, so you need to identify which one you are going for - drop-in with restrictor, drop-in without restrictor, 'lunchbox', cones, etc.
The next point that I think should be made is if you can see a new exhaust in your future then I would wait until you get it and do it all in one. Although changing your jets is not technically difficult, it is fairly involved because you need to take off your gas tank, undo all your hoses, pull out the carbs, dismantle the carbs, fit the jets, reassemble the carbs, put all the hoses back the right way, back on with the tank... not a 15min job. So my advice is get work out what setup you're going to end up with, get everything ready and do it once - as well as time you'll also save yourself a little bit of money this way.
Sometimes the buddha can sell you some jets.
But remember ... confusion is buddha's chief export. However DJ is worse. The buddha uses simple words to confuse you, DJ simply speaks indonesian in response to your english.
Cool.
