I just put my new third eye bar end mirrors on and had some trouble. I've got some superbike bars and had trouble getting the grommets into the bars even with WD-40. I ended up having to shave down the first end to go in with my dremel. Anyone else have problems and what did you do to rectify them?
i used dish soap (orange scented, it matters!) to push em in.
since then i've gone back to stock mirrors (the horror!) and don't have to look DOWN to see if the lane is clear before changing lanes.
i still do headchecks, but having a working mirror for intersections and general paranoia is a good thing.
if the grommet is really tight, use a hose clamp to compress 1/2 of it, then press it into the bar.
remember, orange scented only !
Ohgood... Still have the bar end mirrors? ;)
I want em :icon_mrgreen:

i -almost- said "you can have em for shipping" but now I'm thinking I might put them on again. i'll take a look and see if they're beat up or not. :)
Hello all, new to the gstwins website. Wondering if anyone knows off hand what size bolt will fit into the stock mirror "holes" on a 93 gs. Trying to install third eye bar end mirrors and wanted to plug the old holes with a fitting bolt. I belive they are m10 x 1.25. can anyone verify? Secondly, wondering the size of the original bar weight bolt because im obviously going to have to find a longer one to attached the mirror. Thanks for any advice
I'm almost positive they're 10mm. If you're just plugging the holes I'd just go to home depot and get some of those little plastic plugs that they have in the 'exotic' hardware section where they store all the metric stuff. It would look cleaner than putting a bolt in there. I'm not sure about the spacing between the threads, just take your old mirror in with you to compare.
Thanks tt. Def will check out the "plug" rather than a bolt, looked around hd and didnt see the "exotic" stuff.

they are generally in big wide drawers in the hardware section
Yeah, when I walk down the aisle in my store on the right side there's just about 50 feet of sae nuts, bolts, washers, screws, and above there are bags of packaged screws and bolts, then just past that there's a couple drawers that have all the metric hardware. It's also where they keep things like cotter pins, springs, circlips, all that kinda stuff.
This is what they look like, only you'd want one skinnier, longer, and black....

Something like this would probably work too...

If u end up liking them, go on and spend some $ on a good set and you'll love them even more. I may have mine here somewhere, will check tomorrow.
I bought a set of the creap ones on ebay. as with most things, you get what you pay for. it was hard to keep them in adjustment, and when I finally got it right, one of the mirrors fell off the arm they attach to, apparently the tiny screws fell out on a really long ride one day, and the mirror was left on a 100+ mile route
yeah I loved the bar end mirrors on my last bike. I didn't put them on this one for 2 reasons. I keep my bike in my basement and have to push it through a normal sized door, so the skinnier the better. Second is that eventually Heather may start riding it again, and I'll assume it may get dropped a couple times. I'm fine with that but I'd rather not replace mirrors every time it happens.
The ones I had were the cheap cat-eye bicycle mirrors. They worked surprisingly well, but one of the mirrors did vibrate loose from the glue and when I looked down on the highway there was no more mirror on the plastic body. Someday when I have a nicer bike I may invest in some better ones.
Appreciate the info yall, def a great site for gs owners. Ohgood do you have any pics of your mirrors mounted? Still wondering about that longer bar end weight bolt. Already drilled out the mirror a lil to fit the bolts width just need the length. Thanks again.
Still trying to install this mirror. Got the holes filled with some clean looking bolts at the local automotive fastener. For those who care the original mirror holes are; m10x1.25x20mm (clutch side) and m10x1.25x16mm (brake side). Looking for a longer bar end bolt to accomodate the additional length5 created by the mirror mount. Original bolt is m6x1.0x60mm going to have to have something longer perhaps 80mm or soo and can cut it down as needed. Anyone ordered anything like this online? Local places dont have it. Thanks for any suggestions.
