Title: Thoughts on my friends new bike
Post by: Jackstand Johnny on September 03, 2008, 06:00:49 PM
My friend just bought a 95 Yamaha XJ600/Seca II today. It has low low miles(can't remember what), needs some tlc for sure, and he paid $2000. Even though it would be to late to try and talk him out of it, I was wondering what you all thought of this bike.

I was thinking that. The guy that sold it to him also gave him some weird looking tool. My friend said it was some kind of mercury something or other for tuning carbs. Its a really long thin board with four long clear tubes running down it. I dont have any pics, but Ill get some soon.

The tool is a 4-tube manometer, for carb balancing on 4-cylinder bikes. Don't spill the mercury - store it hanging upright. Not only do I own one, I own a YICS tool (Special Yamaha voodoo, Suzuki-heads need not concern selves with), and have used both. YICS may have gone out of fashion before the Seca II came out.

Yea had a seca for a year, rode it for 6 months literally everyday I lived in houston. Great bike.
Only issue was with chain. Kept getting the countershaft sproket loose. That washer under it is vital. Mile was a bit iffy and it will unscrew the nut. The car is so close to the nut, it wont let it come out ...
Cool.

Seca II, sweet bike,  fore runner of the current half faired half naked craze, big chunky color matched round tube frame, bombproof air cooled  4 cylinder!  Yep I always have an eye out for one!   What's not to love?
