Title: Rear Break Light switch??
Post by: Joe105h on September 16, 2008, 10:17:24 AM
I'm new to the forum and new to the bike community and i have a problem that i wondered if someone had an answer for me.
When i go for a stop and use my rear break the brake light wont come on until i press the brake really hard and its like fully suppressed.
im riding a 89 gs500e i just bought it and i love it. it has its problems but im working on them but the brake light is driving me nuts because no one can see if im breaking unless i use hand brake too.
i have tried my friends ninja and the break is no where near that hard to get the light to come on.
Can anybody help me?  adjust

you should be using both brakes most of the time so it really shouldn't be an issue.

the brake lever/foot peg assembly unbolts with the use of (6mm?) allan wrenches. behind it you will see a small switch with a spring on it; you can adjust this downward (threaded) a little so it relieves the switch sooner so your brake light comes on earlier in the levers stroke.

i'll try to get a picture tonight (i currently have mine taken apart)

You should fix it, but I agree with tripleb, you should pretty much never be using the back brake without also using the front brake as well. Your front brake is where most of your stopping power comes from and if you aren't using it, you're going to go in to rear wheel skids and run into stuff and you won't like it.
