Title: gs500 vs. noob + gravity
Post by: medevac on September 17, 2008, 08:56:34 AM
Yeah well I finally got my first drop out of the way, and luckily before I had it painted.  I needed to around on a 4 lane road and spotted a car dealership ahead on the left with three separate entrances into the place.  I noticed one of those ramps that they use to display cars beside the last entrance with no car on it and paid it no mind.

As I approached to turn left I was watching for on-coming traffic and started to make my turn.  That's when I noticed that the car ramp was sitting directly in the middle of the actual entrance and not beside it.  Not sure why they did that other than to keep people from turning into that part.  Anyway my brain deftly noticed the problem and shifted my weight hard right to counter the sharp turn back into the right lane of the road.

Unfortunately my body instead when HOLY shaZam! HOLY shaZam! and grabbed the hell out the brake and attempted to plant my left leg like I was riding a Schwinn.  I went off to the left and the bike went down.  I jumped back up and was mainly worried about on-coming traffic that might not see me.  At first the entire board was lit up and I made it off the road into the parking lot.

After I stopped though I realized that the oil light went off (I guess it turned on when on it's side) and that I had hit the high beams when I fell, and the turn signal was still on from my original left turn.  I also thought my left peg was bent but it was only folded up as it was intended to do.  Even my new bar end mirrors escaped with a touch of rash.

So while a stupid mistake, at least it wasn't an expensive one.

Now if I could just get this bruise that looks like an eggplant tattoo to heal faster so people would quit asking me what happened.  Either that or you guys need to help me think of a cooler story than "I wasn't paying attention and freaked out".

Nah it's superficial with some localized swelling.  No rebound tenderness or anything that would make me think I caused any real damage.

Get back on soon?  Pfft I went out that night to make sure it would take me to work the next day.

Strangely enough I was in full gear.  I just fell kind of weird with no cool rolling technique.  Just a flip and a SPLAT.  There's no abrasion to it at all, just a nice impact color to it.

And let's not forget the most important part THE BIKE IS OKAY.  Seriously that was the first thing my gf said when I came hobbling in to the apartment.
