Title: Taxi Driver damaged my GS.
Post by: oobyscoot on September 19, 2008, 03:32:02 AM
Parked outside a mates house last night, bleedin Taxi driver reversed into my bike.

Well I went out to confront him and he tried to deny it. When I said 3 people had seen him do it he then admitted it and said there was no damage. When I pointed out the crack in the front fender he claimed it wasn't him, so I said fair enough, I will just take your reg and take it with the insurance, then he came at me a bit quick, so I hit him with my lid. Eventually he agreed to pay me £100 cash there and then, so I took it, told him to F**k off and got straight onto the Motor Insurance Database and he had no insurance. I reported it to the police and was told his car would be impounded.

Dont you just hate these T***ers who think the rukes are not for them. I spent £5 on some chemical metal and £3 on some paint, and you would never know, so at least I am in profit.

The trouble is I feel guilty now, as a taxi driver I have taken his livelyhood away from him, but then I think about all the uninsured passengers he has carried and think F**ck him. Do you guy's think I took it too far? after all he did pay up (eventually), should I have just left it that?

OK, rant over now.

It is your duty and honor to report criminals. Beit a cabby, a tree cutter, a motorcyclist, crackhead, whatever.

You absolutely did the right thing. He denied, lied, and then attempted to assault you when you called his bluff about registration. He paid up ONLY and ONLY to prevent you calling the cops. He likely STILL has not paid up for insurance, registration, or a million other things he owes people in life.

Drop your wedding band, and he'd pawn it instead of posting an ad to find it's rightfull owner. I guarantee.

Pat yourself on the back. You beat him at his own game, impounded his uninsured car, and took an unsafe (HE HIT YOUR BIKE REMEMBER?!) driver off the streets.

Having a compassionate soul is a good thing for you friend. Rock on. :)

Let me get this right. Your feeling guilty for taking money of someone who damaged your bike, then tried to deny responsibility & is driving around with no insurance.
Mate, how would you be feeling if you had been on the bike at the time?

I'll be honest,  you've NOTHING to feel guilty about.  you made your area that much safer by getting the police his information to impound his vehicle.    people like that are scum that fail at life and really deserve what they receive.

good job!

You sound like a good guy, to be worried about what happens to the cab driver due to the actions you took.

I think you did the right thing in turning him in. What if his next accident was a pedestrian? Would he stop and render aid, or take off and save his own ass, due to no insurance.

You may have saved someone else by turning him in.

You didn't take the guys cab, the cops did. There's no way he couldn't have know that was a possibility when he decided to drive around without insurance. This is his fault, he's the one that made the decision to go without insurance.

Forget duty.  This isn't about how much you lost/gained and how much he was punished for the incident, this is about how many other innocent drivers you saved.  You helped your fellow drivers from being hit by this lying, careless hit and run artist.

Full disclosure - I'm biased - I've nearly been hit (and could have been killed) by a careless taxi driver who didn't believe in red lights.  Also, I've had people deny hitting my MX-5 despite their truck's bumper and my hood's new dent lining up perfectly.

The way I see it you did nothing wrong and I think he's lucky you only hit him one time.

Think about this, if he had had an accident with a passenger in the back, they had got seriously injured and couldn't work, his lack of insurance would mean that person could no longer afford to keep his family. Uninsured drivers are scum. Id fooking sue his ass for assault as well.

Landing one on him with your lid was a bit naughty, unless you can prove it was self defence but I wouldnt loose any sleep over the whole thing...........just be careful and watch your back, if he is the vindictive type and does get nailed, he might come looking for revenge.

That dont wory me at all. I can handle myself pretty well. Its not him that was guilting me, my guilt was for his family, maybe he has kids to support, its not the kids fault that dad is scum. But after reading the replies and talking to the friend who was there, I think he deserved it. I admit I probably could have got away without hitting him, but I was annoyed as another friend had recently worked extremely hard to fix up the engine for me (and do a fantastic job) and then some c**nt goes and twats it with a taxi. I was not happy.

Thanks for the support guy's.

Look at it this way, if the uninsured driver has an accident and injures/kills his passenger, he'll get sued, fined and lose his licence anyway. The result for his family is the same, you might have saved someone else getting hurt by turning him in. Donate 95 quid to charity if you feel that guilty, he's lucky you hit him with something soft like a helmet.
