I know there WAS a 550. The GS500 wasn't produced in the years listed though.
ya i know 89 was the first i was just wondering what motor it was then.
i thought it was a year typo at first but then noticed the motor didn't look right so maybe the rear was right and the model was wrong and i just kind want to know what the motor really is
Hi there,
The ebay engine is a GS550E engine, a four-cylinder engine from 1983 through I believe 1985. It powered the GS550E and GS550ES middleweights. Very nice motorcycles.
It is NOT a GS500 twin.
They didn't exist back then.
People list things improperly on ebay all the time. :)
The GS did exist during that time period as a twin, but it was a standard/cruiser styled bike, and in the 400/450cc range. then in 89, it got that rather notable increase in displacement and a way better frame for sportier riding.
ya i knew it wasn't a GS500 motor i just didn't know what it was i guess Rare motor wasn't a good thread title WTF is this motor would have been beter hah

The motor started as a 400, then progressed to 425, 450, and finally 500ccs. The 1983 was 400cc.
