Hello all
have a 93500 that will run intermittantly on the right cyl. I have adj the valves, put in new plugs, ohm out the ign sys and all was in spec. i did the quick chk,thanks kerry, to vfy float bowl was in spec. The bike has 35k on it and I have done all the maint work myself, had the bike since it had 2k on it. The only mod that I have done is increased the idle jet, about 15k ago. Wth this being intermittent I leaning towards the electrical but hay what do I know, I been beating my head on this one for about 2wks now. If anybody has any ideas plz let me know.

wiggle the plug wire ? mine was partially broken and i thought it was fueling. it wasn't.
replacing the plug wire meant the bike ran fine again. that was 15-20,000 miles ago.
i've learned fueling is rarely the problem, and normally the bad gas will go away leaving the bike as it was. in your case, i'm betting on an intermittant electrical.
I'd suggest swapping the coils over, if you have a problem with the other cylinder, the coil needs replacing. If the problem stays on the same cylinder then the problem could well be your ignition pick ups.
Cleaned the carbs?
15 years can stick quite a bunch of stuff in there.
Thanks for all the replies, I will try the wire wiggle 1st. If it is bad how do you change the wire? I was told the the wire going into the coil was glued in and you have to replace the whole coil. Do i just yank the wire out or is it screwd in? If the wiggle doesnt make any different will try and swap the coils. Like ohgoog replied I dont think its a fuel problem either because the plug was a bit wet. I will let everyone know what i find out.

Just to give everyone update. I pulled the ignition wires out and removed the plug caps and found that the rt side was open, I replaced both caps with ngk lb05f which are 5k ohm, also replaced the wire, copper core, for those that cant get copper core by the foot without ordering is and need it right away, go to your auto parts dealer and get plug wires for a vw-bug, 68-69, I do this for my old BMW's, plus its life time warranty. Bike is up and running good now. Thanks to ever one who responded. Its always nice to learn something new.

Copper core ??/ I try to buy steel core I think ... but the fiberglass with graphite is almost the same ... and premade caps etc etc seem to work just fine too.

I'm having poor spark on the right also. It's good to hear that you can replace the wires with buting new coils but how was this done? Are the wires held inplace with some sort of set screw or are the wires themselves twisted into a threaded fitting?
the wire is screwed onto the boot and the coil via a small screw
it's supposed to screw inbetween the core of the wire (copper) and the rubber insulator...
So if I simply twist the wire it will unthread it's self on both ends correct? They're just held in place by differing means/screw methods?
Sorry for not getting back sooner. Here is what I did:
1. I verified that I did have spark on both sides.
2. I did clean the connector that was on the negative terminal side.
So from the above it would appare that it is a fuel problem. So decided to do a few other tests.
3. With both plug caps on I started the engine and pulled the left wire off and had no change in the rpm, about 3000.
4. I then pulled the right one off and it would die, yes I did put the left one back on.
5. I then started the bike with just the left plug wire on and the bike ran , rpm steady from about 1000-3000.
6. I did this with the right one also with the same results.
It seems that with both plugs on only the right one will be constant, where the left will be intermittant.
My next step is to look at the wiring and clean the conntacts.
Any thoughts on what else I should do?
