I have a 1994 GS500 with 25k mi I bought second (maybe third) hand, and it ran well
when I got it. But I let it sit for 2 weeks in my garage without starting it. I finally took
the MSF course, got licensed and registered. I was riding in my neighborhood yesterday,
and now I'm having this scenario:
- Bike starts and runs normally so I zip around the block
- During the ride the bike just cuts off
- To restart, I had to put petcock on Prime, then switch it to On, then go again
- At some point, it dies again
- I stopped after this happened, perused this forum, and started reading this

This morning
- It started normally, with choke on, and when it's warmed up, I let choke off
- It idled around 1200-1500 rpms for a couple of minutes
- Then it just dies
- To restart it, I have to put petcock on Prime (I tried other ways)
- After restarting with petcock on Prime, I immediately switch it to On
- It revs up to 4000-4500 rpms for a minute
- Then it goes back to 1200-1500 rpms for one minute
- Then it dies again
With engine warm, I put Sea Foam in the tank, which has 2 gals. of gas, and tried again,
but with the same results. Do I just need to clean my carbs and get it over with?
Thanks!
BTW, when I put the Sea Foam, I didn't see smoke coming out of the exhaust as some have say
should happen.
Fuel flow issues in anything other than prime ??? vacuum line may be bad ... or disconnected ???
Cool.
Buddha.
I'll check this later, thanks.
After reading more, my issue is sounding more and more like a petcock issue...
