Title: Zombie defense system
Post by: bettingpython on October 05, 2008, 11:24:21 AM
Well my cat being a very nervous and high strung fellow has been worried about zombies and such and keeps worrrying more and more. So at his urging and with the wifes willing assent,(plus she likes playing with zombie defense systems) I have completed my 1st M4A3 carbine build.

DPMS lower
CMMG M4A3 upper and 16" mid weight WASP lined barrel.
CMMG WASAP coated bolt carrier group
Tapco 6 position butt stock.

Pictures later time to go to the range.

I prefer the pistol grip shotty myself- none of that pesky amin' easy to destroy the brain. Shovels work too.

If they ever attack, Im taking over a Super Walmart.  Lockign up a barracading all the doors and odd entrances. Then sittin gback and waitign the shaZam! out.
Super Walmarts have almost everythign you need.
shaZam! tons of Food.
Bedding
Entertainment needs
Plenty of .22 rifles (for plinking), Shot guns and ammo
Plenty of crossbows and bolts
Hygiene stuff
Best thing they have, A huge kill zone of a parking lot with lights and security cameras

A2 birdcage flash supressor on it already. Thinking of getting one of the YHM models for CQB....plus I already have a hankering for a sound supressor so the yankee hill unit would be ideal since it has the quick detach collar.

As far as scopeing it goes I have nice Bushnell variable 3-9x40 rifle scope for target work. I just need to get the elevator block for my picatinny rail.

I'm not fond of the holographic optics, I have a damaged retinal nerve in my left eye, even though my corrected vision is 20/15 left and 20/10 right, 20/40left and 20/20right uncorrected the fuzzy image I get in my left eye causes the holosights to be fuzzy and hard to see. I do almost as well over the large aperature peep sight as the guys with ACOG's or Eotechs at close range. For long distance aimed fire I'm a fair shot at 100yds with the peep sight.

When I do a forend gaurd with picatinny rails I might do a laser....the green ones are kind of neat. I will be doing a weapon mounted light system now. Did some low light drills, definately different from low light pistol with a flashlight.

I wonder how the beowulf conversion would fair against the zombie tide?   Is there a c mag for that application? That would be fantastic i think.

It's a mil-spec upper it would fit my lower just fine but I am not a big fan of pistol calibers in a rifle.

Later jserio I am too busy shooting.

get some white face paint and walk and talk zombie until we can get close enough to kill a bunch.  or we can get a elevated firing position and use the scope.   zombies don't eat cabbage.

We can throw some Harley riders into the parking lot to act as bait. Draw the Zombies in to the field of fire.... :icon_lol:

Thanks but no thanks. I actually know how to do that myself, the parts are even legal to buy but since the recieiver was manufactured post ban after may of 1989 I can not legally make or own it if I did that. Yeah I know legal schmegal but I have no desire to take a chance with the federal boy's. Plus I have no place to go shooting if I full auto it. That draws attention and range officers then want to see your title2 tax permit or your credentials and department letter for the weapon.

Got the wife a springfield mil-spec champions edition n the commander size. Full size alloy frame with the 4 1/4" barrel. Really nice base model 1911 shoots good and she enjoy's it.
Then there's my para P10.45, I don't want to talk about it right now. It's atr the gunsmiths having a failure to eject causing it to lock in battery problem diagnosed and fixed. I did everything I knew to fix it and had no joy so now I am paying a professional gunsmith. I get that little bastard running and I am trading it for AR goodies at the gun show.

You said zombies don't eat cabbage, we have to use live bait, I suggest harley riders, their brain function is not much higher than zombies but it should be just enough to draw them in.

Or were you just dropping by to fart and had cabbage to increase the fart potency.

I love cooked cabbage by the way...mmmm tasty.

Oh and beowulf being a pistol round????? say what???? Thats .50 cal.  Big f%$king round.  I imagine if you hit a zombie anywhere in the torso it may knock him down long enough to take a double tap on his face or incapacitate it.  I dunno.  I just know that Its a big slug with a lot of potential kenetic force.

On a strange TMI side note, My wiener isnt spectacular, but the motion is something to praise. Every woman has either deserved an oscar or really had an orgasm.  Either way,   lmao.  Im gonna get a tattoo that simply reads, "The Motion In this Ocean is Better".
Actually I probably wont get it, but I stand a huge chance at gettign it while drunk.  Kinda like a big bird or bert and earnie on your ass.  The classic embarassing drunken tattooing. Except cooler.  kinda.  not much.  lol
But I digress,

Sorry shiz I thought the .50 beowulf conversion was using the .50ae round. Yeah thats a big mother. And again shootability goes out the window beacause of price. Hell by the case 5.56ball is still at 35cents a pop. that .50 beowulf stuff is up around $1.25 a pop. I don't really like exotic caliber weapons, I like commonly available ammo sizes. Better chance of me finding it at the sporting goods section of super wally world when we barricade ourselves in to hide grom the zombies.

I'm really pleased with the springfield GI, it's at a good price point, it's the same steel and forgings they use on the higher end guns. For the money it is a good value. Yeah it's GI sights but later down the road if you want novaks or wilsons any gunsmith can so the dovetail cuts and install them for you. And you can have the ejection port lowered and flared later on as well. Plus I like a parkerized finish, blued looks really nice but for a carry gun it's a Buddha Loves You when the weapon sits tucked in a holster all day close to your body and you see the long term results of exposure to sweat on your deep blued polshed piece.

Beaver tail grip safties, commander hammers, ambi safeties, full length guide rods and flat mainspring housings are all easy to install and fit items with minimal work necessary to do a good job anymore especially on a Mil-spec frame like the springfield.

You made a great choice with the springfield as a starter gun.

Just an FYI feed reliability can be an issue on a new 45, especially with hollow points. Break in is simple and fun use standard 230gr copper jacketed ball ammo for the first 500 or so rounds you send down range. Don't use cast lead slugs they're too soft to wear down and polish the feed ramp and chamber throat entry. And don't use target loads, full house ammo is the best for break in on a new gun to wear everything in right and cycle properly, recoil springs are pretty stiff in the beginning and soft target loads tend to stove pipe on ejection.

Stag lower, RRA parts kit, YHM complete upper with flip up iron sights, YHM Aggressive flash hider, Stag collapsible buttstock.

All of you like bettingpython, I can't have the Taurus PT1911 so if anyone decides to move here, buy 3 and private party transfer them as well as any kel-tec pistols, and many others.  I could have a shopping list plus 100 per gun for you for a year of things I can't get in Kalifornia.  Going to build a 20" upper next and make it a nice stainless barrel for 500-800 yards.  After that, a .22 spikes upper would be nice with a fake can.  I can't have a real suppressor either.  I may shoot up all of wal-mart you never know. :cookoo:

Nice one Bomadillo.

Sorry about the peopeles republic of Kalifornia restrictions dude but no way in hell am I moving back there.

I like that YHM foreend. I been looking at getting a YHM quad rail fore end for mine. Big gunshow here the 8th and 9th of november getting my wish list ready.

Don't even private transfers have to go through a FFL and 10 day wait by law out there?

Hey BP, If I ever sell this damn bike I'll buy that Para off ya.  I'm still mystified that it's been giving you shaZam!.  I've seen a para get hit with shrapnel, half-buried in sand still fire perfect.

Would you be moving here though??  The only legal way to get any of those mentioned is that you have to have them legally in your name, move to california and establish an address, then do a private party transfer of a maximum 1 gun per month in california with a 10 day waiting period on anything that is called a "firearm"  Which is long gun or not.  Ghey I say.  I say Ghey.   Frickin green eggs and ham.

I've got a few AR's and AK's floating around.  Definately a worthwhile investment at the moment.

My two AK underfolders..  One is a Yugoslavian M70ab2 and the other is a Romanian WASR10 (both are 7.62x39)

Here's a pic of my fixed stock Yugo M70ab1...  (yes that is a 40 round mag.. Florida rocks!!)

and a shot of my daughter shooting it. Off to the side is my Bushmaster M4A3 with Aimpoint Comp M4 with 3x multiplier (on Larue mounts)

I have some other AR's, but no pics on hand. They are all the same basic M4 design, 16" (although one is a 11.5" w/ 5.5 flash supressor permanently attached to keep it legal)

oh my goodness tons of Food.
Bedding
Entertainment needs
Plenty of .22 rifles (for plinking), Shot guns and ammo
Plenty of crossbows and bolts
Hygiene stuff
Best thing they have, A huge kill zone of a parking lot with lights and security cameras

You have to worry about taking out looting shoppers on top of zombies in a building with HUUUUGE capacity...you'd need a small army. I've stayed awake at night thinking of such things. My heart is filled with joy knowing there's people like me out there, and theyre into the same bike I have too. I've made plans on escaping my house from a dead sleep in day and night conditions, lists of who to call, where to go, what to do...

This deserves a whole separate section in the forum to cover it completely.
