Post by: woodee on October 05, 2008, 06:15:45 PM
i just bought my 04 500f
the previous guy had it sitting for a couple of years
it only has 400 miles on it,today i took it apart and cleaned the carb.
the problem im having is that it has no throttle response and sounds a bit farty,  :dunno_white:
every time i try to give it gas it will die...hat could be the problem?

could the carb need adjusting? and how would i do so?

new plugs, check float heights, adjust the air fuel mixture screws (prolly not needed) and adjust the valves (needed soon). the valve adjustment kit circulates, get on the list and enjoy the dvd. :)

the farting lack of response sounds like a dirty air filter and a bad mixture, or you're trying to get power below 3000 rpm.

if you find the fun zone up around 7-8000 rpm, you'll see what i mean. don't over rev her, she'll float valves @ 10-11000.

check your oil on the CENTER STAND or WHILE YOU BALANCE her on level ground, WITHOUT SCREWING THE DIPSTICK BACK IN. do it often, she's air cooled ya know ;)

check your tire pressures, they make and break the handling with just a few pounds.

when you start wondering about chain slack and adjustment, see this for the easy, fast, proper way to do it:

if you're not hte hands-on type, just send your carbs to srin.... er, uhm, buddha and he'll do all the ugly work for ya. he likes ugly or somein ;)
