Title: Best sound for the bike?
Post by: Danny500 on October 09, 2008, 09:18:54 PM
I was thinking about sound today... exhaust mainly.. and I want to find a good sounding exhaust for my bike that doesn't have to be a full system. Not overly-concerned about performance gains (would like to avoid any loss) but something a tad louder with a good deep tone.

I know it's not going to sound like an I4 or Vtwin or anything, but here's what I deducted.

Best sound for motor... At high speed that is.

I-4: Indy Car
I-2: Stock Car
V2: Muscle Car
V4: Ferrari

Just a thought.

Lol, I'd love to... but GS500 frame won't fit an I4 motor... unless it's REALLY tiny... Lol.

I just want something throaty... stock-car sounding... there are too many exhausts out there that sound tinny, or high-pitched... Jardine and V&H both don't sound all that great to my ears...

However, Yosh slip-ons sound ok... but I'd like a smaller canister than the R3's and such.

I love the sound of my RS-3...it's a very deep rumble. It deffinately makes the bike sound bigger than a 500.  It is pretty loud but that's the idea, right? Good luck finding what fits you!

My streetbike has the stock cans.  I really don't feel a need to annoy the general public and make their perception of motorcyclists any worse.

I love the way my track bike sounds, but it's at least as much due to the engine mods as the can.  Just putting an exhaust on your bike is not going to make it sound like anything other than a parallel twin - just a louder parallel twin.

As far as 'best sound' goes, it's a tie between the big bang Yamaha MotoGP bike, and a race supermoto at WOT.  A GS500 will never sound like either, and those sounds are only at home on the track.

THAT'S WHAT I'M THINKING EXACTLY!!!!!

That's the perfect sound!!!! Where did you find that? Is it just a slip on? Any major jetting change?

^^^^^
it's a slip on for 2004-2005 GSXR 600/750.
I have a custom flange (4 bolt design) and my midpipe has different angles than stock to gain some clearance for the brake.

jetting is regular for this kind of pipe (free flowing) and lunchbox air filter. I have dynojet crap needles and jets but you could go with 22.5, 65, 147,5 and stock needles, and you should be fine.

cheers
