Title: New throttle cable too short?
Post by: Juan1 on October 10, 2008, 07:49:14 PM
I ordered a new throttle cable from Bike Bandit for my 1989.  With the adjustment near the top all the way in, and the adjustment at the bottom all the way up, the cable isn't long enough to allow the throttle mechanism to touch the idle adjustment screw.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there something I may be missing?

Thanks

Well, yaw; yer miss'n a few mm of cable.

Or maybe its the risers you added.

Or the Bandits screwed-up and sent wrong product.

Or supplier screwed-up and made the cable sheath too long.

Yep, I routed it the same way.  The issue isn't that the rubber cable portion is too short.  That part is perfect.  The issue is that there is not enough metal cable sticking out of the rubber portion at the top and bottom.

I ended up just ordering a used but unfreyed cable from ebay.  I'll get this thing running if it kills me.

Ask them to check the part numbers. There are two versions of the throttle cable........If its an `89 with clip-ons you need part no 508747001. The non clip-on bikes from 90 onwards use part no 508748001.
