Ok so i know this has been brought up a few times but i have some questions about it. I wanted to put a SV 650 shock on my 2000 gs 500e, but idk what year would be best for the SV or if it even matters the year?

It doesn't matter, cos all years of SV650 dont fit all years of the GS without lots of grinding, cutting, drilling and hacking and even more importantly ... thay all are crap. You are 2 for 2 on that one ...
The shock for a GS is an 89-95 or 96- 98 katana. Literally on any year of GS, its toss it on and run. I just located one and someone has first dibs on it. I can check for more ... I do speciality work like this on the kat shocks.

A bit more work is a GSXR, but if you buy GSXR shock from me, I supply a modded part with it, I just need yours back as trade. $75 and shipping for both the shock and shaved linkage.
SV shock is so much work ... its gotta be free to offset the work. The SV shock also does not have rebound adjustment like the kat does. Its just preload. Like a GS.

For maximum ride height and good suspension - especially if you're heavy and ride hard ... gSXR 750 ... nothing needs to be done, you park the bike on a 3-4 inch concrete block and take off the shock and the linkage, swap it for the linkage and shock I send and fit the reservoir and you're done.
Kat shock, even easier, park on a 2X4 and swap shocks, no reservoir no nothing. I have to find a kat shock somone bought that shock I told you about already, I may be able to, before I have to run to nashville this weekend. Kat shock will not raise the rear end all that much, especially under no load. As you load it, it will sit higher than stock with the same load. As much as 2 inches taller if you have a 250-275lb riding weight. But if unloaded it could be as low as just a 1/2 inch taller ... You can run all stock everythign and not even bother ... side stand, center stand, chain all work 100% fine. Raise too much and one by one they start rubbing this or leaning too much or this or that.
